Hmm hard to say as I am still in school myself. A lot of people here get their Msc directly after getting their bachelor degree and it's kind of the norm here (except maybe UK) but I can't say whether more people are going for their MBA's here and how that would actually influence their ability to get promoted to senior levels.

I come from an Eastern European country and I was thinking of applying to HEC Paris 1-year Strategic Management masters. I would have 2 years of WE upon matriculation. How do you think the Adcoms would consider this fact if I apply to an MBA business schools ">M7 school after I get another 3-4 years of WE after the MSc?

Similar situation for me, 12Digit. But at the same time, i'm also wondering would one NEED an MBA after the Msc? Perhaps an Executive MBA might work better? What are your thoughts?

I actually fancy the idea of going back to school for 2 years, I think full time MBA is better to get a much deeper connection with your classmates. I also would like to go through the OCR, get an internship at another industry, maybe even make a career switch.

I am in the same boat as you folks when it comes to the MBA after Msc debate. I belong from India and have applied for MSc programs in Europe. I have 3 years WE and after obtaining the MSc, I am planning to work for 3 years and then go to a good b-school in USA. I know that this plan is very ambitious and more likely improbable, but I came to this results after about thinking for close to 2 months. And what I concluded is this: if I can create a good enough story for AdComs later on, explaining them in honest words everything that I have done, then I think I would stand a good chance when the time comes. Anyway, this idea is just on paper right now. But if anyone has any information regards this, or maybe if someone has done an MBA after Masters in Management, I would like to hear/read their views about it.

Well i am currently a student at ESCP Europe doing my Masters in Management, so i think i am pretty well equipped to write an answer to this question. First of all i am under the impression that you think the MBA and MiM are very far apart. This is not so, most of the MiM curriculum is very similar to that followed in the MBA classes ( almost 60%). We are taught the same way with in depth case studies and team projects. The most visible difference may be that, as the MiM students are low in work ex( 2-3 years or less) some of the classes are more theoretical in nature. From what i have experienced the post graduation opportunities after MiM are really great with people getting jobs in top consulting , marketing, finance firms at really good remuneration packages. So the main reason for doing an MBA which is breaking into a good management role, is already being taken care of by pursuing an MiM. This really destabilizes the whole argument for a MBA after MiM, as you are getting the same education and good management jobs on graduation. Now ofcourse there are a few students who would prefer to add an MBA degree to their resume too, infact we did a study on the MiM student profile and asked students the same question. Only 30% of 130+ students said they would go on to do an MBA, while 26% said they will work for a few years and maybe go for a executive MBA. So i guess that answers your question pretty clearly. You can read the full survey by googling "MiM student profile survey"

Hope the answer helped.
