DOJ Says Harvard Discriminates Against Asian-Americans. Could This Affect Your Job/School?

Today the DOJ said that Harvard's use of a "personality assessment" had the impact of creating discrimination against Asian-American students. If you're interested in reading more, here's the WSJ article. Does anyone think that this will have a significant impact on the demographics of elite schools and therefore the finance jobs that people at elite schools work?

Note that I am not trying to start a debate about affirmative action or this particular ruling. While we all have opinions about them, I am only interested in hearing if anyone thinks this ruling will have a significant impact on the demographics of elite colleges and in finance jobs that recruit out of those colleges. Racial background is a serious factor that job and college applicants take under consideration, and I would like to know if anyone thinks that this case will change the role it plays in the application process.

I think everyone is generally against discrimination, but what complicates this is that companies use "culture fit" in their interviews as well. Just like "all politics are local", really all hiring is local too. and if hiring isn't, then staffing definitely is. Consulting firms have the "airport test", which is essentially would your presence would make it more or less enjoyable to be stuck at an airport in the midwest if your flight gets cancelled.

Not sure the reason why Asians score worse than others, I guess thats the main point of the article.. Universities get ranked on how well they place into top programs, so my guess is Harvard is mimicking the culture test applied by the Bains and JPMs?

Just a thought, no real solutions here.
