Georgetown MSB vs Northwestern MMSS
I was accepted to both this year as a sophomore transfer applicant. What're your thoughts on both schools?
I'm leaning towards Georgetown because they have better recruitment in New York and place slightly better at elite business schools. I also get a great east coast network. DC would also provide for internships throughout the year.
Northwestern MMSS is a great program however and would be more intellectually stimulating.
Current MMSSer here-- First of all, congrats on being accepted as a sophomore transfer. I can tell you with firsthand knowledge that doing so is incredibly difficult. MMSS gets a ton of sophomore applicants and takes a very very small number, so it really is a pretty impressive achievement. I can't really answer your question without sounding biased, so I'll just tell you about my experience with MMSS. On the whole, MMSS and Northwestern tend to prefer consulting to investment banking. That said, from what I've seen, if you can pull off a 3.6+ and do MMSS (and do something clubwise outside of class), you'll have absolutely no problem getting a job in IBD. Because MMSS is such a small program, alums are particularly loyal/ want to help fellow MMSSers. Another really nice thing about MMSS is that it fulfills all of your required courses for the Kellogg Certificate Program, which is a big deal because Kellogg gives employers a resume book containing all of the students that do the program, and they're basically top of the pile for IBD recruitment.
