GMAT retake for HEC Paris
Right now, I am taking the GMAT for the third time. Last month, I took my second trial scored 46 in the quant part, but in the verbal, I had some sort of a panic attack and I got back in time, skipping the last 10 questions without solving them and I scored 610 overall. That was so devastating that I could not get out of bed for a month. Right now, I do have a chance to retake the exam and send my scores to HEC Paris as the last chance and I need to break the 700 and I don't really know what to do and what more can be done from my end. I need to put a plan for the coming 20 days to reach the score I am aspiring to. Please, I need help with that, as i am so down!
I need to handle the stress and focus on a strict plan, especially regarding the verbal section.
If anyone can help me with an advice, I would be more than grateful
Hi khalednasser, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
You should retake yeah. Which program are you applying to?
Try using targetestprep its really good, but in 20 days idk if you will be able to cover the majority so maybe just do the tests
I ran out of money and I cant pay for anything further plus I already studied all the material for the GMAT and know all the concepts.
I am asking how I can handle that and what can be done from my end. I already purchased Magoosh before and I do have the official guide
Tryhard questions on gmatclub focusing on the topics you feel are your most weak
Would like to point out that Q46 feels low for HEC though, did they formerly asked you for an overall 700 GMAT without further request ?
for my situation, coming from Egypt, which is not well represented in HEC, I have an advantage to get accepted with 700.
I want to enhance my quant score by 2 points, reaching 48 and I guess I can do that. I am weak in probability and counting and coming from an engineering background, I know how to solve and enhance my quant score.
I don't feel comfortable with the verbal part, whether with the questions or timing and i don't know how to enhance my score.
I would go to gmatclub and sort their verbal forum for the best threads, there is one user there whose name I don't remember that breaks down various types of questions and teaches you to spot certain regularities and rules in questions. Other than that, make sure to always time your questions when practicing and to expose yourself to questions of varying difficulty level. If you truly don't know an answer just guess and keep moving, time is so so important.
Just go hard on the practice exams.
It should be 20% doing the questions then the other 80% going through all your answers, even the correct ones. Do them again, look at the answers, was there a more efficient way of doing it?
You should have done all the questions on the question bank at least once including all the practice exams. Buy the additional ones if you can.
I believe Bloomberg have a GMAT course as well for which you can get a 3 day free trial as well. Spend 3 full days on it, focusing on your weaknesses, and you will be able to get a decent chunk done.
Hi - I scored a V45.
I can offer you this advice:
First, target the area you are weak. Is SC killing you? Is it RC or CR?
Each type has its own problem.
With SC, a huge tip I had was to look at the overall "sentence". Not hyperfocus on details - as in, what is the sentence trying to convey and what is the most logical way to convey it? This will usually lead you to the correct answer (or at least leave you with two choices).
With CR, it is the opposite. You want to focus on details. A minor word choice can change a seemingly incorrect answer to a correct one.
With RC, I cannot offer much advice - I was naturally skilled at this. However, time management is huge. Don't waste time and don't rush.
For CR and RC, I strongly recommend practicing with LSAT questions. They will be far harder, but this is good because then the GMAT questions will be a cakewalk
Good luck!
