Hello folks:
I could use some advice from the enlightened wallstreetoasis community. I am a 25 year old Canadian lawyer with the federal government (think Department of Justice). I would like to pursue an M7 MBA to move into management consulting (and potentially investment banking and private equity). I have also looked into MBA programs at NYU, Yale, Oxford, and INSEAD. I went to a top-tier law school here in Canada and have a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree (highest honours). I do not have a business background.
I am sort of lost navigating all of this because most Canadians pursue MBAs in Canada (which has become a degree mill). The stats for Rotman (U of T) and Ivey (Western) are less than appealing with fewer than 10 students landing MBB, IB, PE, etc. from these schools.
I have spoken with some of the M7 MBA recruiters, who surprisingly informed me that I would be considered as a non-traditional applicant, and would be a very unique and welcome addition to their class. However, I am not sure how much truth there is to this, or whether they were just trying to sell their programs to me. Almost everyone I see entering these programs have a STEM or business background and experience in their respective fields.
What would be my best options if I wanted to work in Canada or the US (leaving the doors open to both countries)? Would an MBA be helpful or should I consider an MPP (Master's in Public Policy) at Harvard (or another ivy league) and move into consulting that way, which I've seen some people do?

Some consulting firms (MBB) have channels for lawyers to come in as associates, have you checked those out?
I specifically recruited for Bain Toronto and remember a couple lawyers there with good but not amazing Canadian law firms.
Thanks! I have seen some lawyers here move into MBB firms but they are all corporate lawyers, so was not sure what my chances were coming from the public sector.
They don't care that much if you have the right school/grades which sounds like you do.

You can move into consulting with an MPP (Please see https://blog.accepted.com/harvard-kennedy-school-an-interview-with-admi…</a">this interview with the head of admissions at HKS) , but it may be harder to transition from there into IB and PE without an MBA.
I agree with those who encouraged you to apply and felt that if you combine your previous experience and education with a top MBA you could be very appealing to elite management consulting firms (Please check out this https://blog.accepted.com/bain-companys-keith-bevans-talks-about-career…</a">interview with the head of Bain recruiting.
