How big of career hit is switching majors from finance to classics?
Hi,
Current finance major at a target school with an internship offer for next summer in S&T. I would like to pursue a long term career in finance, preferable as a research analyst at a hedge fund or in sell side equity research. I am thinking of transferring majors from finance to classics/philosophy because I am very interested in the field and I will probably never have the opportunity to study these subjects again after college; I can learn about finance and economics anytime. How big of a hit will my career prospects take if I change majors? I still am planning on taking coursework in finance and already have some business coursework under my belt (accounting, etc). I heard that liberal arts majors at target schools are competitive during recruiting but I want to make sure.
if you go to a target school with a strong GPA and know the technicals it doesn't matter. Know atleast 2 HYP students who majored in english & ended up at Centerview. If you don't go to a target, and don't have the technicals down perfectly then it's gonna handicap you pretty hard
What if I go to a lower Ivy (Brown/Cornell/Dartmouth)?
Just wanted to give this thread a bump. Would leaving the business school make recruiters think that I lack skill or interest in finance?
Could you elaborate on why a switch of major is necessary? Is it not possible to stay in your current major, and take elective courses in other fields of interest? Do you see yourself pursuing long term career or personal goals in philosophy/classics?
