IBM to Top B-School
Hey guy!
I am new here and hope to find some advice.
I am an undergraduate student and got an offer from IBM Consulting Shanghai office. The position is entry-level strategy consultant and I’m totally sure that it has no relation with IT. My target is to apply for top US B-School like Sloan, Ross, Tuck or Kellogg after 3-4 years.
Question:
What about IBM’s prestige in US? Is it a good start to get into top B-School?
Thank you guys sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!

A bunch of us from IBM at top business schools this year
I am just curious about which candidate pool should IBM consultant belong to? I mean, IBM is an IT company so maybe IT pool. But I am in the management consulting service line so maybe management consulting pool? It just confuses me.
Thank you a lot because it is a little bit hard to get US business school information in Asia.
Given IBM's brand name and your position, and hopefully a solid GPA and GMAT, I don't see why getting into a top b-school would be a challenge.
That is the question. I am graduating from top 3 university in China. My GPA is pretty pretty bad and GMAT is 750. I'm wondering if I can have a part-time master and get a better GPA before applying for MBA. Is it useful?
Thank you so much!
You mention that your GPA is pretty bad -- how bad is "bad"? How do you rank compared to your classmates?
Also, IBM consulting is a good training ground for you. As other posters have said, it's a great first job and puts a lot of students into the b-school pipeline. Don't worry if it is IT or consulting -- that's the least of your issues. You just want to do super-well on the job. IBM does train well and also offers opportunities for you to get a lot of client-facing experience. Take advantage! Show leadership and be the star that you are.
As for part-time masters, maybe --it really depends on the problem with you GPA, what courses, and why.
Best to you, Betsy
good company that places several candidates at each of the top b schools every year.
