INSEAD MIM?

What is your take on the INSEAD MiM?
I have seen on all the major forums that specializes on masters/mba/consulting/finance that some people consistently put it down (more than other programs) while others praise its great brand name. I get that it is young and maybe for finance it suffers a bit compared to LBS/HEC but is it really a big gamble to go for it instead of an "older" program? I always thought that it was the more international choice (ex. HEC is for french ppl)

Based on the WSO threads, the INSEAD MiM program is indeed a relatively new player in the pre-experience Masters in Management (MiM) market, having launched its inaugural class for the 2020-2021 academic year. Despite its youth, INSEAD is a prestigious institution with a strong brand name that carries significant weight in the management consulting sector, particularly in Europe.

The discussions on WSO suggest that INSEAD's MiM program is expected to significantly impact the MBB (McKinsey, Bain, BCG) recruiting market in Continental Europe. This is largely due to INSEAD's strong reputation and its strategic focus on management education. While it's true that the program is new and might initially lack some of the historical data and alumni network effects of more established programs like those at LBS or HEC, INSEAD's global brand and extensive network in the consulting industry are likely to compensate for this over time.

Choosing INSEAD over older programs isn't necessarily a "big gamble." It offers a more international cohort compared to programs like HEC, which are perceived to be more regional (European, French). If your career goals are aligned with gaining a global perspective and working in international markets, INSEAD could provide a significant advantage.

In conclusion, while some may view the INSEAD MiM as less proven in certain areas like finance when compared to schools like LBS or HEC, its strong brand and the strategic focus on management consulting make it a compelling choice, especially for those looking to build an international career in consulting.

Listen, the MIM will never be seen as prestigious as the flagship insead MBA which is a different level. However, because of the MBA, Insead is seen as the top business school outside the U.S. and its network / overall brand will carry the MIM a long way.

Overall, there’s just not a lot of competition for MIM in Europe. It’s really Insead / LBS / HEC and Insead has by far the strongest brand name of all 3. If you want to do consulting, tech and entrepreneurship - Insead blows the other two out of the water. If you are 100 percent set on London IBD, however, you could consider LBS (but I would urge you to think short term vs long term and I think the prestige gap between insead and LBS is large enough to choose insead regardless).
