Insights on Stanford GSB?

Greetings,

I do not doubt it's an incredible business school.

From rankings Stanford GSB is always in the top 3 business schools in the nation, however I was wondering if someone could provide specific details about what an amazing place it is.

I'm looking for a good story, be it first hand or hear say!

Thank you.

Ultimately, a b-school's reputation amongst applicants, students, and recruiters is the perceived overall caliber of the student body.

And that's why Stanford is seen to be amongst the best. It's the hardest to get into. It tends to attract the most accomplished applicants (or at least the ones with the most pedigree on their resume), along with HBS and Wharton.

The location being "idyllic" on the other hand is debatable. Of course, it isn't Philly or Detroit, but it's hardly paradise -- in my view, its location is highly overrated. Personally, I think Palo Alto is a sterile, overpriced, monotonous suburban hell, in the middle of a culturally nonexistent Silicon Valley where women are a minority. And San Francisco or the East Bay are far enough to be a world away.

But the fact that it attracts the most accomplished applicants only attracts other similarly accomplished applicants.

As a dual-major in chemistry & economics with long-term aspirations of working in venture capital. From what I understand, Stanford would be ideal for you if you are interested in any tech-related business because of its location and alumni network.

This is the gist of what the partners at the VC firm where I will be working this fall told me.

How does one maximize his chance of getting in? I have a feeling you have to start something like a non-profit that helps provide mosquito nets to children in Africa to fight Malaria... Just working doesn't cut it?
