Is it possible - Top 25 MBA programs

Is it possible to get into a top 25 MBA program if you have:

-Undergrad GPA 2.8-3.0 from a no-name school

But have:

-GMAT of a 630 or better

-Good work experience after undergrad

-The ability to write an exceptional essay portraying why the grades were subpar.

I ask this only because I will be graduating in May with a GPA most likely just under a 3.0 (2.93 or something like that) and its from a no-name liberal arts school. I majored in econ and management and did well in all my major courses. My low gpa is due to my slacking in gen ed courses and a party crazed freshman and sophomore year.

I am pretty confident that I'll be getting some real good professional work experience once I graduate, therefore I'm not sure how heavily that will be weighted. Also I am a great test taker, I'm not saying it'll be easy for me to achieve a 630 or higher but I am just one of those people that "get it done" when their backs are against the wall, so to say.

Anyway I would appreciate as many insightful comments as possible.

Thank you

It's always possible but with those stats your chances would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1:10,000 at best. You really can't do to much with your GPA right now, but try to get it up to a 3.0 if possible. You should be shooting for a 700 on the GMAT with your background (The people who get in with scores below 650 are generally going to have a killer GPA and work experience). In addition you need to focus first and foremost on getting a good job this summer. A little volunteer work would help your chances as well. The good thing about your situation is that you have a lot of time to accomplish all of this..... good luck!

Please enlighten everyone on the inputs to your 1:10,000 probability calculation. I'm intrigued.

Simply arbitrary, but probably pretty generous at that ;). It really would depend on his whole package, but a 630 is probably going to be out of just the range of the students at just about all of those schools. Most likely the ones that do have a GMAT around that have a high gpa, awesome work experience or some big time connections. Sure it is possible for him to get in with those stats, but it's also technically possible for one of us to be walking Minka Kelly down the aisle one day and sadly I don't see that happening :(.... He should just focus on trying to get a 700 and have a reasonably good shot as opposed to trying to squeak by with a 630.

My dog took a practice GMAT and scored higher than 630. And all he did was take a shit on the paper.
