IU Kelley (Hutton Honors) vs Rutgers Business – Worth the Extra Cost?

Got into Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with Hutton Honors and also Rutgers Business School (in-state, no honors). I’m trying to break into front office finance—IB, S&T, maybe AM—and want to make the best long-term choice.

Here’s the breakdown:

IU Kelley (w/ Hutton Honors)

• Cost: ~$63K/year

• Known for strong placement into IB via the IB Workshop

• Out-of-state so higher cost

• Bigger brand for business nationally

Rutgers Business (no honors)

• Cost: ~$33K/year (in-state)

• Less of a national name but solid Northeast alumni network

• Close to NYC, so proximity could help with networking

• Not in any honors program

For context, I’m from an upper-middle-class background. My family could make IU work financially, but it would definitely be a stretch and probably involve loans. I’m just not sure if the extra ~$120K over four years is worth it for Kelley.

I’m serious about front office roles and plan to hustle no matter where I go (networking, internships, etc.). But would IU Kelley (especially with Hutton Honors) open significantly more doors than Rutgers?

Bro IU is not worth 60k+ and loans, only a small percentage of Kelley breaks into IB. I’d say start at Rutgers and try to transfer, but if unable to, you can def still break in IB somewhere. Kelley probably has more placement on a numbers basis though.
