LSE / Judge for MSc/MPhil in Management ?
Hello everyone,
I'm a French guy applying to a bunch of BS. In addition to the usual top 3 French (HEC / ESSEC / ESCP), I'm considering applying for BS in the UK.
I'm currently getting a Master's Degree in International Security with a focus on Energy, so my goal would be to work as a strategy analyst/consultant in big energy/defense firms.
I was considering the 2 following programs :
- MSc Strategy & Management at LSE: I meet the (rather low) requirements (except for the GMAT which I havent taken yet), the program is amazing (lots of electives and mroe strategy-oriented).
However the class looks big and the requirements are low which makes me wonder on the level of the program. Also, LSE fees are 2000£ higher and life in London twice as expensive as Cambridge.
- MPhil Management at Judge : They have incredibly high admission requirements (first class with honours/3.7 GPA) and the class is rather small so that makes me think that the overall level of the program is better. I have had confirmation by the lady in charge of admissions that my French grades meet the mentioned requirements, although barely so I guess I have my chances to get in.
The program is less interesting than LSE (a lot more "broad" and few electives), but it's also cheaper as mentioned earlier.
Also, the "Oxbridge" lifestyle with the different Colleges, the oldschool buildings and academia really attract me.
Can I have some feedbacks on both programs, or anything that would help me chose ? Or can you point other UK programs that may be just as good ?
It is to note that I'm not particularly interested in working in the UK and that coming back to France is my n°1 option.
Also I'm getting a student loan to pay for it so money is also an issue.

LBS Masters in Management? Imperial? St Gallen?
They're are a lot of good MiM schools.
LBS has a great program. Take a look at their website. They have a lot of information. They will even look at your resume/CV to see if you are eligible for free.
Thank you for your answers. I have taken a look at the program and it does look great. How would you rank it compared to LSE/Judge ?
Also it is really expensive (25K£ + London life for a year which is ~25% - 30% more than Judge costs) so I would rather get the cheaper one if they all rank pretty much the same.
Don't forget college fees probably aren't included for oxbridge courses, they tend to only quote the university fee, so add on £3k approx.
I haven't looked to much into the MiM programs but I assume the arguments for doing an MFin in London vs Cambridge still stand:
More office days and career events in London. MiM is only 1 year, and you'll probably spend a significant amount of time on the train to London going to these.
But, as you want to work in France it makes no difference. They're all great.
Cam tution + college fees amount to 20K£, plus one year of accomodation + living expanses in Cambridge.
LBS is 25K£ + one year of accodomation + living expanses in London (probably 50% more expensive than Cambridge if not more).
From what I heard recruters often make the trip to Cambridge for career events. And yes if I'm willing to work in France that wouldn't make much of a difference..
I think January will be a month of hard choices for me (given I'm admitted to any of those)..
I will contact LBS and ask them what they think of my application given my transcript/resume.
OP I would have loved to hear about the outcomes of your application, and now that we're four years later, your whole business school graduate experience in the UK, as I have an extremely similar mindset & applicant profile.
