medical school to finance

Hi, I am 21 years old and currently enrolled in 4th year of medical school. I am in a 6 year course. I am no longer interested in pursuing a career in medicine (completing residency etc.) and instead have developed an interest in financial markets for several years now. In the little free time I have in medical school I find myself researching and spending time around the markets. If I wanted to land a job as an intern in high finance e.g hedge funds would it be wiser to back out now and switch undergraduate (even though I feel like that is too late now) or continue down this path and graduate as an MD and potentially enter from there? The other option, is to stop studying and land a job in finance although that is probably very difficult given the competitive job market. I would really appreciate your 2 cents on this. Especially if you or someone you know have found themselves in a scenario like this... Thanks

I have a friend who went to Harvard Medical School and she didn't want to be a physician anymore and instead graduated med school and went into Healthcare M&A in NYC.

There's a few threads on the forum for this. In year 4/6, you are probably best sticking it out and getting the letters beside your name.

Then you push to go into consulting investing etc. All else equal, if you don't graduate and have no work experience you are the same as anyone else off the street.

This advice is also highly dependent on where you live. If you are in Western europe, or USA, you have a great shot. Other areas are more questionable.

Yeah, if western europe is uk or france i see this lots. Especially with biotechs pfizer etc.

Just go look for MDs on linkedin working at these companies, see what they have done, reach out.
