Middle office to Harvard

with all the talk about harvard apps lately ive been wondering if its possible to go from middle office (underwriting, customer service, marketing, etc) at a commerical bank (Wells Fargo/ chase/ BofA) to HBS. I havent taken the gmat yet. What do you think? What recommendations would you give? It seems like HBS is just front office (IB/consulting/entreprenuership).

I know some analytics guys who got into Wharton and Harvard. I'd call quant analytics (the programmers who run the pricing systems and trading risk systems) MO. Some of them had better luck than the traders.

1.) What is your story?
2.) How will you affect HBS's placements?
3.) How interesting are you as a person?

^Exactly that and pretty much you can get into Harvard from any BO, MO or FO role.

Hey IP, you wrote:

I don't think this is that big a deal. Think of it this way: it is a huge school with terrific placement in every industry. I don't think that's a primary issue when looking at a candidate.

But #1 and #3 are absolutely the most important points. Not much else comes close. I read on this forum and GMAT club and P&Q about having great grades and great scores, what are the chances? Those academic numbers are the absolute minimum to get noticed. The rest is much more visceral -- It's about character, patterns of success, working/living and thinking globally, and it's about being a leader. I kind of think the admissions office knows it when they see it, and that "it" doesn't come from one part of an organization. "It" can come from anywhere.
