MIT MS, Cambridge MPhil, or Oxford MSc for name recognition and prestige?
Title. I’m deciding where to go to my master’s program at and would like to go to the more pedigreed uni. Both are equal for my field of study.

For name recognition and prestige, here's how these programs generally rank based on the most helpful WSO content:
MIT MFin: Globally recognized as one of the most prestigious finance programs. It carries significant weight in both the U.S. and international markets, particularly in finance-heavy industries like investment banking and private equity.
Cambridge MPhil in Finance: A highly regarded program, especially in Europe. While Cambridge has immense historical prestige, the MPhil is often seen as more theoretical compared to MIT's practical focus. It still opens doors in finance and academia.
Oxford MSc in Financial Economics (MFE): This program is also highly prestigious, particularly in Europe and the UK. However, as noted in WSO discussions, Oxford's master's programs (outside of the MFE) are sometimes considered less impactful compared to its undergraduate reputation.
If your goal is global name recognition and prestige, MIT MFin is the top choice. However, if you're targeting Europe or the UK specifically, Cambridge MPhil or Oxford MSc could be equally strong contenders.

What's your field of study?
Any field of study works. I am just wondering which parent uni has the most prestige and name recognition in the world.
It really depends on the field I mean asking the question like that makes no sense.
If I had to do a ranking, I would do Oxford>Cambridge>MIT
Just because Oxford is like probably the most well known in Europe while MIT is not top3 in the US.
For STEM MIT>Cambridge>Oxford
Why Oxford over Cambridge?
Also you said Oxford is the most prestigious university in Europe (again, what about Cambridge), but isn’t it also the most prestigious/well-known in the world (perhaps Cambridge is more well-known in the third-world)?
I would say Harvard is the most well known and prestigious one: I came across a paper recently analysing the universities worldwide who had the alumni with the most influence and/or wealth. Basically those in politics, finance, entrepreneurship etc but those who succeeded.
Well Harvard was far above everyone. Like really far. I was not expecting such a gap. So I would say Harvard is the most prestigious worldwide.
Now for Oxford vs Cambridge well that is just a personal preference honestly, I also feel like Oxford is a little more known. I am French, people walking the streets know Oxford but not always Cambridge. That is really weak study aha but that is all I got. Either way both are great and Cambridge is better for science.
