msc finance durham vs msc finance and investment nottingham
As written in the title, these are the best offers I could get for a master's in the UK, and I am trying to develop a career in Equity research or investment banking in the UK as an international student. What are your comments on these universities? Please help me choose one.
ARE THEY WORTH IT
Ah, the classic dilemma of choosing between two solid programs! Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a bit of insight that might help you swing from one vine to another in your decision-making jungle:
Durham University: Known for its strong academic reputation and a well-respected name in the UK. It's a member of the prestigious Russell Group, which is the UK equivalent of the Ivy League. This could be a plus when it comes to brand recognition, especially if you're aiming for a career in Equity Research or Investment Banking.
University of Nottingham: Also a Russell Group university with a good reputation. The MSc Finance and Investment program is designed to provide a solid foundation in the principles of finance and the key skills required for a career in the finance industry.
When it comes to choosing between the two, consider the following points: 1. Curriculum and Specialization: Look closely at the modules offered and see which aligns better with your career goals in Equity Research or Investment Banking. 2. Location: Both universities are not in London, where most of the finance action is. However, consider the proximity to financial hubs for networking opportunities and internships. 3. Alumni Network: A strong, active alumni network can be crucial in the finance world. Check out which university has a more robust network in your field of interest. 4. International Student Support: As an international student, you'll want to ensure that the university you choose has good support systems in place.
Remember, both programs are valuable stepping stones, but it's the hustle and networking – getting your name out there and showing your passion for the industry – that will truly make the difference. So, whichever program you choose, make sure to complement it with networking, internships, and real-world experience. Swing high, future finance star!

You're going to find it tough to enter IB or ER from these unis, especially (and maybe even if) you have previous super relevant experience.
That said, I'd probably take Durham here.
There's always the option to go the Big 4 route, get your ACCA then hope you can lateral. However big 4 pay is low in the UK, it will suck for a couple years.
I already have CFA do you think I still need ACCA, and what about Warwick I am waiting for its offer
