Nottingham economics vs business school

I’ve been considering applying to Nottingham as I understand it is a strong semi target university which does decently well in IB placement. From what I’ve heard the business school is considered less competitive and placements aren’t as good as in the economics department . I’m wondering whether this is a complete myth. I’m mainly hesitating between applying for a degree in the economics department (eg PPE) or applying for one in the business school (eg industrial economics).

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems that the University of Nottingham does have a reputation among some for its students sharing their university classification on LinkedIn. However, there isn't specific information available about the comparison between the economics and business school departments in terms of competitiveness and placement rates.

It's important to remember that the reputation or perceived competitiveness of a department can vary and it's crucial to consider other factors such as the course content, teaching staff, and your personal interest in the subject.

If you're aiming for a career in Investment Banking, both economics and business degrees could potentially provide a solid foundation. The WSO Academy offers resources like the Networking Guide and Investment Banking Prep that could be beneficial regardless of your degree choice.

Remember, it's not just about the degree but also about the skills and experiences you gain during your time at university. Networking, internships, and practical experience can also play a significant role in securing a position in Investment Banking.

I hope this helps and best of luck with your decision!
