Please share your knowledge on recruitment at these universities (Williams/Dartmouth/Northwestern)! Help a HS student!

Hey all,

First, I am not sure if I am posting this question in the right forum, though there does not seem to be a right forum. Anyway, I am deciding which school I should apply to with my one and only, binding ED application. I am currently considering Dartmouth, Williams, and Northwestern (all for economics). As of now, I hope to go into management consulting (hopefully t2 or MBB but don't really care as long as I get a consulting job hihi) either in Chicago (if NU) or in the Northeast (if D or W). Can you guys let me know if there are any substantial or considerable differences in job opportunities in (no1) consulting and (no2) any finance position in case I decide that's more for me? Can alums or people in the know also tell me how difficult it was for them or for people they know to get a job/internship in the aforementioned fields, even having a good GPA and involvement?

Thanks, guys! Truly 'preciate it!

For ED also look into UChicago, basically a better Northwestern in every way possible, recruiting included

Out of school for 3 years and went to Northwestern. Have a ton of friends at both top banks and consulting firms from all these schools except Williams (just don’t know anyone who went there). These schools have no difference in recruiting minus maybe location and really are quite interchangeable (Northwestern certainly sends more people to the Midwest than the other two). You should base your decision off the college campus and school vibe over recruiting for post college jobs when deciding between these choices. Anyone with a brain knows getting to a top investment bank or top consulting firm from any of these will come down to your ability to maintain a high GPA, interviewing, and networking. It shouldn’t be that difficult for anyone from the schools you listed unless you fail to succeed in the three things I listed above. Especially considering you are in highschool, your career opinion could change throughout college, so making a choice based on consulting exits is especially misguided.

In summary, these schools are interchangeable for recruiting having recruited and been on the other side of recruiting. You should make a choice based on culture of the school—because the schools are very different culturewise.

Hey, thank you so much for the reply! I truly appreciate a NU alum's perspective. I have heard that NU can be considered a 'consulting powerhouse', did you find this to be true? I have also seen people shit on the school, and place it as a 'lo target' (for what that's worth) but this may be due to wso being a primarily finance sub where NU performs a little less than consulting. What are your thoughts? Finally, do you know about the proportion of those seeking consulting jobs to job offers at NU?
