Post MBA offer as analyst not associate

Graduated from top non US MBA and got an offer from an EB at a non US office but was surprised that my role title is analyst not associate. Is this because its an EB? or because post MBA roles aren't as common? Pay is good, team is great. My background is equity asset management

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not entirely uncommon for post-MBA candidates, especially those from non-US MBAs, to be offered analyst roles instead of associate roles at elite boutiques (EBs). This could be due to several factors:

  1. EBs' Structure and Expectations: EBs often have leaner teams and higher expectations for technical skills and deal execution. If your background is in equity asset management rather than traditional investment banking, they might see the analyst role as a better fit to build your IB-specific skill set before moving up.

  2. Regional Differences: Non-US offices of EBs may have different hiring practices compared to their US counterparts. Post-MBA associate roles might not be as common in certain regions, and they may prefer to onboard candidates at the analyst level to ensure alignment with their team structure and training.

  3. Post-MBA Roles in EBs: While post-MBA associate roles are more common at bulge brackets (BBs), EBs may not prioritize MBA hires as much, especially in non-US markets. They might focus more on promoting internally or hiring laterally from other banks.

The good news is that pay and team dynamics seem favorable in your case. If you're comfortable with the role and see a clear path for progression, this could still be a strong opportunity to build your IB career.

They do but no one else in the office has an MBA, but almost all have masters (all the juniors have masters). I wouldnt say mba is uncommon in the country, I assumed its just not as valued in IB outside of the US?
