PROFILE EVALUATION for mim (italian student)

Hi guys, I am an undergrad from an italian semi-target (cattolica). I would like to apply in january/ february to some of these MIMs : LBS, LSE, INSEAD, ESCP, HEC ESSEC.

My profile:

GPA: current 26.1 (slightly better than average), will probably be 27/30 by the time I'll apply (which is after my exchange) and I think I'll be able to graduate with the maximum grade at the end of the bsc. I am studying econ and I will major in finance.

EXCHANGE: in september I'll do a study abroad semester at UCLA in the united states, which is definetly a top school and so I think it will enrich decently my resume (but I don't know how much european business schools care), where I think I'll be able getting a perfect 4.0 GPA. I'll ask to ucla's professors for the reference letters.

GMAT: 690 q 45 v 38, I know it is not ideal but maybe for mim they are less strict than for mif

INTERNSHIP: I am currently doing a summer internship in a quite large italian private bank in their asset management team, milan office

LEADERSHIP: I am the Event manager of the tedx of my uni, my team is of 12 people

How can I increase my chances? maybe getting in a student club while at UCLA? I know about retaking the gmat, but i would prefer avoiding it.

For the future, I still haven't decided if MBB or IB because my long term goal is working in a small PE firm, maybe in italy (my home country)

I’ll just be speaking about the LBS MiM, but I have a feeling that it’s also true for HEC and LSE.

According to this (https://www.gold.ac.uk/media/documents-by-section/staff-and-students/st…)

A 26 is barely a 2:1 in the U.K. (60%) and a 27 is a weak 2:1 (63%) equivalent.

I don’t think those grades are good enough for the LBS MiM. Youd need to counteract them with a stellar GMAT and maybe an explanation if your grades have been affected by something.

A GMAT of 690 is okay, but nothing special, certainly not enough to counteract your low grades. Consider retaking? 690 means that you have a very solid foundation & understanding of the exam material/scoring, but you’re just not great at certain GMAT topics. I would consider spending a month-two and retake the exam.

The internship and leadership activity is a pro, but again 1 internship is not really something that will make you stand out. Can you get more interesting ECs/internships under your belt before applying?

I would say that overall, at the moment you are a below average applicant for LBS with a 26, fairly average for them GMAT, and only one internship.

Hi, the grading conversion between italian and english is quite strange, because the final grade I could be able to get would be the equivalent of a first class, but the gpa would be the equavalent to a 2:1. Anyways I remember asking a HEC recruiter and she told me that usually the italian students that get in have a 27 GPA, so I think that for some schools that could be a decent indicator. Maybe I'll try retaking the exam when I come back from the exchange.

About the internship, maybe I can try finding some other experiences in big 4 deals or strategy division or maybe m&a in some small firm that still does good deals; but it would be quite challenging because of the uni exams / masters applications / maybe retaking gmat I would have to do at the same time.

Don't go to LBS or LSE it won't help you much considering your profile in case you plan to recruit for IB after masters. Try GE in France. You might get into ESCP or ESSEC. HEC will be a bit difficult unless you increase your GMAT score and make it 720+. Also if you want to go back and work in Italy then Bocconi is the best option and second best would be LUISS

Hi, thank you for your comment, you say that because they are 1 year only and my profile wouldn't be good enough for recruiting for the summer internship right after the master? Or for some other reason? In case would you suggest trying the global mim for LSE?

LBS/LSE MIM/GMIM>=HEC MIM> any non HEC French MIM.

Kind of in a similar situation have offers from HEC Grand ecole scholarship and LBS/LSE. I’m not French and am pursuing a career in PE I would appreciate some guidance on this
