Profile Evaluation MSc Finance

Hi, after researching I am still unsure on where I stand in terms of chances of admission so if anyone could provide any advice that would be great!

Profile:

Age 21

Low 2:1 degree (graduated 2022) from UK low end RG Uni

760 GMAT (could retake and possibly score higher based on my practice tests)

Passed CFA L1

Looking to apply to:

LBS (MFA), LSE (A&F), Bocconi, HEC, ESCP, SSE, RSM

Biggest weakness is obviously my degree grades and no internships. Will my GMAT and CFA L1 be enough to make up for this? If not, what other schools should I consider applying to?

I will be very thankful for any advice!

ESCP I'd probably avoid, top program is the MIM which takes 2-3 years, and finance isn't really a top program. SSE is typically suggested only if you want to be in the Nordics. RSM is definitely a tier below the others.

I'd say you'd get into Bocconi without question, probably LSE A&F then too. The GMAT and CFA should definitely help you out continentally - I'm not sure how harshly it would be taken in the UK, someone else would have to chime in. If its possible to apply to both A&F and Finance at LSE, you might as well.

The real question is where you want to end up, a lack of work exp would likely make getting good offers in the UK more difficult from continental program.

If you have a 760 GMAT it will definitely make up for some weak grades especially if you come up with a decent reason.

LSE / Oxford both really care about it - I’d apply to both and say that you have a pretty good chance as long as you interview well.

Thanks. Hadn’t considered Oxford as they ask for a strong 2:1 at least, however no harm in applying.

Do you have any idea of my chances at LBS? The MFA allows CFA L1 in place of GMAT, so perhaps having both could help?

Your undergraduate GPA and the fact that it is not top tier will impact but you can use it at your advantage. By saying in your essay that you worked really hard to be where you always dreamed for. Adcom really look at that and your 760 (and CFA test) will make the story more credible.

LBS is a better program in my opinion as it is more practice than theory oriented than LSE or Bocconi. Contrary to the comment above, I would consider RSM as a very good alternative for its price (but yes lower than LBS, LSE, HEC). ESCP forget about it, not worth the high tuition fees compared to other peers.

Thanks mate, will take that into account for my essays. LBS is my preferred option but RSM is definitely a great choice for the price (I have dual EU citizenship so I get the lower tuition fees).
