Semester exchange advice Mannheim University in Germany vs. WU Vienna in Austria
Hi all. I'm starting my Masters of International Business program at Queen's University in Canada this fall. I have to select a B School for my semester exchange and I need a little help regarding it. I have selected the following universities in that order. Please see that I want to get into management consulting probably in one of the big three. I'm a fresher and I don't have any internship experience too at the moment.
1. Mannheim University
2. WU Vienna
3. ESSEC France
4. University of St. Gallen
5. Bocconi University
Is my order of preferences fine? Or should I change them. Your insights would be appreciated. According to you where will my semester exchange experience be best?
Thanks a lot.

Mannheim and WU and strong in their local markets (DACH) but if you don't speak German and can't go work in the DACH region they may not be of much use to you. St. Gallen is more recognised in Europe but it and the aforementioned two are much stronger in finance and IB placement than MC. I would argue ESSEC France and Bocconi should be the top 2, but it's a personal opinion. Do you want to do MC in Canada, US or Europe?
I want to do MC in Canada and US.
Then I would try and get an idea of which of those names carry the most weight in those markets - my guess is that for MC it's Bocconi and ESSEC but I may be wrong.
But ESSEC semester exchange is just for 2.5 months whereas WU and Mannheim semesters are longer 4-5 months. Where would you spend a semester for exchange and why?
My personal opinion is that exchange semesters for MC don't matter too much and since all the schools mentioned are good in some capacity I would pick the funnest city and enjoy the fuck out of it. With that criteria Bocconi in Milan and WU in Vienna would be pretty fun. If you think it would truly add value then don't worry about the exchange duration but of the brand name of the uni.
Thanks a lot for your advice.
All of them are pretty top tier, as mentioned above ESSEC/Bocconi maybe carry a better name. I don't think that it will make a big difference if you do not plan on moving to Europe. Think about where you want to live for a semester and the activities nearby. You might want to go to St Gallen if you like skiing/mountains.
