Should I accept Warwick Business School MSc Finance offer?

Dear other monkeys,

I have recently graduated from a German target university. Currently I am doing a gap year with 1 internship at big4 M&A, 1 internship at a MM boutique and 1 internship at an EB in Frankfurt.

I have taken the GMAT, but scored only 590. That´s why applied to WBS MSc Finance and St Andrews MSc Finance and Management. I received two offers and now I am not sure, if I should accept one of them?

Alternatively I could wait until january and apply to NOVA or Copenhagen Business School. Or retake the GMAT and hope for ~620.

Plan is to receive a FTO at a EB or BB. Preferably in London (if that doesn´t work out - Frankfurt is the way to go I guess)

Thank you very much for your help. I really and truly appreciate it.

Mate come on you clearly can do much better than a 590, just put your head down and grind the GMAT and apply to better programs (Bocconi, HSG, HEC, Imperial, even LSE and LBS if you are nearing the 700 mark). You can even go for MiM/AcFin programs there with lower GMAT averages at those schools.

WBS and St Andrews are very meh at the Master level.

Yeah man just crush it, not sure 590 to 620 makes any difference but just looking at your profile makes me think you have the work ethic and intellectual capabilities to score in the high 600s at least. Don't sell yourself cheap, 620 is still very mediocre, just give it your all (as in study properly and invest cash in prep material if you must) and you will get something you can be proud of. HSG out who cares, plenty of other schools/programs with admission rounds until late next year.

Apply to HSG A&F they don't require GMAT. CBS placement is a bit weak since a lot of Scandinavians who want to go banking are already studying in the UK and thus the placement is low.

I just got the offer from WBS Finance, and I'm curious about the career path of this programme. Is it quant enough to enable us to become quantitative researchers? Or what kind of roles do the majority of students are in after graduate? Thank you for your help!

Studied MSc Finance at WBS as well.

You will find some extremely driven people and placement is good but would say that placement depends on individuals themselves. The Business school is nice but the curriculum will make you study like a dog.

Placement from WBS MFin is actually okay if you have previous IB experience (which it sounds like you will).

The target (LSE, LBS, Oxford, ICL) or bust mindset is for people who have less relevant experience because those names can bridge the gap whereas WBS generally cannot for BB/EB. This is at least what I've garnered empirically from scouring IB LinkedIn profiles and talking to people.

Thank you guys for all the answers. Seems like MSc Finance at WBS is not as bad as one might think and can get you to London, if you do have previous IB experience. But if you have this experience, one could also just go to St Andrews and enjoy the "better" life (golf, sailing, sports etc.) there and then apply to IB jobs in London

Right now I tend towards StA due to life quality etc.

I did my MSF at St.Andrews and its really how you make of the place, the content was not difficult and the town was beautiful.

Most of the cohort was actually German/Asian for some reason and ended up in big 4/t2 consulting. Only a couple placed into IB FO but not BB, I ended up at S&T at Big 6 in London. Feel free to PM me for more details if you want!
