Should I transfer out of Vanderbilt?

Hey guys,

I’ve recently been thinking about transferring out of Vanderbilt for a number of reasons. The school doesn’t have a finance major and I really want to study finance. I also have recently been concerned about people saying that it is a semi-target and I should transfer to a target. I have a 3.9 GPA in Econ and am pretty involved on campus. The schools I would be considering are Duke, Northwestern, Yale, and Georgetown. Is transferring out purely for the sake of getting an upper leg with networking worth my time and energy?

3 of those 4 schools don't have undergraduate finance majors...

Vandy is fine for recruiting especially with your stats. There's a solid group of alums on the street who will fight to get you interviews.

If you don't like the school, that is a different story and potentially worth a move. Transferring is a lot of work (nearly as much as applying in HS) and I wouldn't do it for a slight leg up in recruiting. Your time is much better spent networking or doing an off cycle internship.

 

So in your opinion, do you think the “target” school overemphasis on WSO and the likes is not nearly as important as some say? I’ve just read too many explanations on forums of how a semi vs target school is a pretty marginal difference. However these could all still be high school seniors regurgitating whatever they see elsewhere.
