St Gallen or Luxembourg School of Business?
I'm a high school senior in Spain, and doubting whether to apply to St Gallen or Luxembourg School of Business.
St Gallen is top tear for Europe but the cost of living in Switzerland is very elevated. On the other hand, Luxembourg is the "center" of European Finance institutions but it hasn't got much weight in IB or PE. The other problem is that it's quite a new university, and the exchange programs that they offer are in No-name Schools.
If I went to St Gallen I could do a good MiM or break into IB directly, and get good internships, but in Luxembourg I'm not so sure that it has enough of a name to get good internships (BB or less) and exit opportunities.
The last option would be to go to Paris, as I speak French. I'm thinking of Sorbonne or Dauphine and then get an exchange year at Bocconi and hopefully do the Magistère in Banque/Finance.
Please help me out.
St Gallen has a way better reputation :)
It would be a terrible decision to study in Luxembourg rather than St. Gallen from both a career and student life perspective.
The Luxembourg Business School is relatively new and highly focused on the Luxembourgish job market, which means the only places that hire from here are the big 4 or banks/funds for back-office roles. Moreover, I highly doubt you would be able to go to a decent university for a masters without a stellar GMAT, let alone IB.
Then in terms of your student life, Luxembourg is very small and barely has any people aged from 18-26, there is nothing to do, and the weather is awful.
In contrast, St Gallen is a great school, it has a strong reputation and it is certainly possible to break into IB from it, and whereas I've heard the student life isn't great, it's definitely better than the one in Luxembourg.
St Gallen is a no brainer given the two choices. Also, cost of living is not much higher than other cities you mentioned (lived in a few of them).
You'll also enjoy St. Gallen because there are a lot of french-speaking people.
LOL there are no french speakers full german part... WTF
Seems like you are completely uninformed. Just look up "Cercle des Francophones HSG", one of the University's largest student association (if not the largest non-purely-career-related association of the University)
