Stay at IU or transfer to Northwestern?

Pretty much the title. Have a 4.0 at IU, but wondering if the prestige of Northwestern vs Kelley will make a big difference. Also not sure if I would get into the IBW since it's super competitive to get into. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I would say that both choices bring their own advantages and disadvantages. IU exists somewhere in the spectrum between non-target and semi-target from what I've heard. I know a few solid MM investment banks (that have recruiting pipelines to Chicago) where starting your career there would be a step in the right direction. I also know that Northwestern leans more into the semi-target to target spectrum (similar caliber to UMich, ND, etc.) depending on the firm.

With a 4.0, you'll undoubtedly be a standout candidate for recruiters in IB for firms with pipelines from IU to Chicago/Midwest. I don't believe the difference is drastically significant either way, but do some of your own research about the schools. I'd suggest transferring, because the alumni network + proximity to Chicago + perceived prestige + resources/on-campus opportunities + number of on-campus recruiting firms at Northwestern would definitely boost your resume and overall career opportunities. But if you stay, it isn't a major step back by any means.

Wishing you all the best partner!

IBW places like ~ 70% into NYC and as above said top kids place at top shops. In chicago pipelines to every major firm.

Northwestern has an IB club and publish placements online. Not a huge difference but probably a higher ceiling. Better brand also

College is much more than IB. Go where you will enjoy college the most

I go to Purdue (obviously have lots of hatred for IU) but I recommend staying. They have fantastic placements, good party scene, better social life than northwestern. Northwestern seems like where fun goes to die. If you are a social person stay at Iu, especially if u can get into IBW.
