Thoughts on 1-Year Accelerated MBA Programs?

Hey all,

Hoping to get some color as to whether or not a 1 year MBA program is cost-effective way to pursue a change in industry. I'm currently in REPE with IB experience but looking to get into Management Consulting or back into IB but for a better bank/group. Only problem is the price tag and opportunity cost of a two year MBA program is incredibly daunting to me and I would love to be able to knock my degree out in one quick year and get my cash flow back in the green as soon as possible.

1) Do one year MBA students enjoy the same career prospects as two-year MBA students?

2) Is it an issue that you have to start recruiting for full-time jobs more or less as soon as you arrive on campus, not giving you much time to build up experience in B-school to wax poetic about in interviews?

3) Obviously if you're just doing a 1-year program you can't do a summer internship. Will most of the top firms recruiting from B-Schools generally fill their Associate classes up via return offers to those who interned there over a summer?

4) Any other advice or knowledge to share about financing an MBA?

What 1 year programs are you considering? Each of the top programs seems to have a slightly different format so 'it depends.'

If you consider CBS J-Term, you could land an in-semester internship that will set you up for recruting success.

Kellogg 1Y (if you meet their requirements) likely has less 'local' options for an internship and you really would start recruiting pretty quickly - summer term with other 1Y students then you are technically a second year.

Cornell 1Y? Immersions are a great way to get 'real world' experience that closely matches an internship but those in the accelerated program can't do the investment banking immersion.

Have you considered part-time? There are more and more good options every year.

Have nothing to offer here unfortunately but curious as to why you're looking to transition away from REPE. Probably a topic for another thread, but wanted to ask. Happy to pm you as well if you care to divulge and would rather respond that way.
