Undergraduate Finance programs for a Military Vet
Ok here's my situation. I'm a 25 years old currently serving in the the Marine corps. I'm an E-4 with 3 years of service in the infantry. I have one more tour overseas, then I will be transitioning out of the military and trying to pursue an undergraduate in finance. I'm looking for a strong program in the NYC area that may be more inclined to accept a military veteran.
My High School GPA was around a 3.3 with my SAT just over 1000. I Also received about 45 credits from Long Island University about 4 years ago before I joined the service.
If anyone has some insight I would greatly appreciate it !
After military service a lot of schools will look very favorably on you as a candidate. What was your GPA from LIU? I'd say, depending on what you did in the military (ie- leadership responsibilities, technical nature of job, etc) you may very well have a shot at some of the top schools in the area. You will have to work for it and right some damn good essays, though. Perhaps some of the other ex-military guys on this board can give some advice (and, yes, I know there's no such thing as an ex-Marine).

Former Naval officer here. It sounds like you have about one to two more years before you get out. You're on the right time line. If I were you I would apply to Columbia and NYU if you want to stay in NYC (But also look at Yale and Harvard, they are right down the road, shoot for the moon. You also make so little they might give you a full ride.). Look at your options on your 9/11 GI BILL and see how much debt you're willing to put up with. Also, find out what the essay questions are and start doing some rough drafts because the more you write the better you will be. Take a class to bring up your SAT score (I know you can probably pull a better score if you know the test taking techniques). Talk to your Senior NCO (If he's supportive) and your Platoon Officer they can help you by chopping your essay and they can be your access point to network with a senior officer in your command that can give you a great hard charging recommendation. Lastly, when you get a chance to get back home go visit the school. It gives them a chance to to put a face with an application and for you to see if that is the place you want to spend the next four years of your life.
