University of Cincinnati: Masters in Finance (MSF)
Someone posted back in april and got no comments...
I am still trying to do more research into MSF programs.. Does anyone know anything about the University of Cincinnati MSF program?
Nova is still my top choice for next year, but I feel depending on the placement stats and quality of the program it could be a good plan B?

I just posted it on my site a month or so ago. It is a relatively new program with not too much information. I reached out to admissions, but didn't hear anything.
It is a decent school, too bad the Big East imploded. I'd say it would do fine in the general area, but it isn't one of the more stronger programs. Could be, but not right now. I'd say if you are dead set on Ohio, Ohio State would probably offer you more flexibility, within the state and outside.
To be honest, Nova is going to be the better choice, absolutely. Full disclosure, I went there, but until Cincinnati posts placement stats, a class profile, career services, etc, you are going to want to go to the established program.

Ohio State is like 2-3 times the price of UC though we will see. I am hoping I get into Nova so it isn't an issue

ANT, do you know of any decent career opps though in the Cincinnati area. I tried using the good old search function and couldn't find much of anything...

Sure you could find a credit analyst gig at Fifth Third, PNC, etc. Maybe something with the university endowment. It is a small city so options will be limited.
P&G and some other F500s are out there... Ultimate goal being PE it will be an even further up hill battle from UC and Cincinnati.
Bumping this in case anyone wants to know anything about UC or the Cincinnati area. I'm an undergrad here and would be happy to answer any questions that I can.
I heard there is a decent incubator in UC from the MSF admissions person. Anything to add that I may not have found already? I am looking Growth PE.. I found a couple super small places and I think it was 53rd or maybe US Bank that have a PE arm (albeit a small one)

You are mostly correct on the smaller sized firms- Cincinnati does not have a huge finance industry presence. Like ANT pointed out, there are quite a few F500 firms and in turn lots of people do corporate finance positions. PNC and other regional banks do recruit for IBD here, but it is for their Chicago and Cleveland offices. I can't find much in terms of employment results on the UC site, so I would suggest calling them to get more info.
The b-school building itself is pretty old and while it gets the job done, it's nowhere near as nice as Miami-Oxford or Ohio State's buildings. It has been undergoing some renovations though, so hopefully it will get nicer over the next year.

Cincy has a lot of great companies headquartered there. You're likely only going to get F500 corporate finance or Retail Banking gigs though.. I'd look into Proctor and Gamble, Fifth-Third Bank, Macy's, and I believe they have a GE FMP rotation program there. You might be able to get a regional IB gig at PNC or maybe Key Banc in Cleveland.. you'll have to really network to get something in New York or Chicago
