Vanderbilt vs Tulane?
Hello,
My goal is to work in private equity in the future. I have been accepted to both Tulane and Vanderbilt. At Tulane, I would be able to run track whereas Vanderbilt does not have a track team. My question is: Would attending Vanderbilt and not playing a D1 sport or attending Tulane and playing a D1 sport boost my chances of getting into private equity?
Thanks!
lol...just go with whichever you like more man..Nobody will give a flying fuck that you ran track in college
Don't choose based on a career you may or may not like in the future ... go to the place where you will have the most fun, college isn't forever
I'd personally go to Vandy... but thats just me.
Depends how much you like track. I chose a weaker school to play my sport, because it is the best thing in the world for me and I wanted to keep playing. If that doesn't matter that much for you, go with Vandy.
How tf do high schoolers already know that they want to work in PE!
This forum is a treasure trove of information.
In my mind Tulane is notably behind Vanderbilt. Tulane's stats have been going up but I'm not totally buying it. Like do you seriously think Tulane's 2024 acceptance rate is 13% when Cornell, Georgetown, and USC are ~15% for 2024. Something is off there in my opinion...
Vanderbilt has prestige, history, and alumni-not to mention it is apparently one of the happiest student bodies. It places into IB much better which will give you a clearer path to PE, although by the time you are 28 people barely care where you went to college its all about how you've worked.
For clarity I go to neither school, ran track (but my 51 400m wasn't getting me on the team at one of the 3 other schools that I mentioned). Tulane is also a fine school and the parties are amazing but Vanderbilt is the clear option
prestige, history and alumni?
Lol at 28, PE recruiting happens at 22
Ok intern.
Typical path would be 2-3 years in IB before PE, direct is very rare. That means, realistically, you are at least 25. Some kids, B-school, atypical path, take longer
It usually made sense to me when interviewing candidates why someone chose Tulane with scholarship in undergrad over the Dukes etc. since New Orleans is an amazing place and the rest kind of blend together. If you are staying gulf coast should also be a plus. I have actually seen more undergrad Tulane guys on the buyside than Vandy fwiw
I went to Vandy for undergrad. I'd say just go to Vandy. Some PE firms recruit at Vandy, although I don't remember which ones (not in the field). If you want to do IB -> PE path, then Vandy is the clear option. In addition, you will have more time without playing a D1 sport to get involved and build up your resume. Just go to NOLA for Mardi Gras
Thanks guys!!
