W or Reapply H/S?
Was very lucky to have gotten into W. However, I was hoping for a H/S outcome. Should I re-apply?
Basic info: ORM (770 GMAT, 3.4 from T10 school).
WE: Startup (3 promotions in 3 years). First employee that helped build the company to 150 people.
What would change if I re-apply?
- Startup getting acquired for $$$$ since application
- Another promotion (so 4 promotions in 4 years). Would be VP/Director level.
My goals are entrepreneurship/working at a seed startup. I think H would provide marginal benefits to my career choices, but S is my dream school. Crazy to take another shot at these 2?
If you have the time. Wait and reapply if H/S is truly your dream. What are you looking for in an MBA program? I feel like you could approach many seed stage startups and easily get a job right now. Do you really need and MBA and -$200k to achieve your career goals?
I want to pivot into Tech PM/VC/test out some entrepreneurship ideas during MBA. GSB seems like the perfect place for that. I'm 27 if that matters in terms of age of application.
Sent you a PM.
If you just sold a startup, I honestly think you should be able to do any of those things yourself, even if it was a relatively small exit.
While Stanford will be incrementally better for your goals of tech/vc, I'm not sure the difference is worth waiting around an extra year for a crapshoot chance at getting it. The W network in tech and VC is very strong as well, especially since you already have a desirable background at a startup with a successful exit. If entrepreneurship is what you're looking for, you'll certainly have a great environment (and access to capital!) for that at W.
Wouldn't call it crazy but H/S are absolute crapshoots. Wharton is still a great program - I'd say it depends on your risk tolerance and how badly you want to pursue an MBA. As the first poster mentioned, I'm sure you could jobs at early-stage start-ups with your background.
W is a great option. I would take it and run.
Thanks all! Agreed that the opportunity cost of wasting one more year/risk of getting into S is too high for the marginal incremental benefit
