Wharton vs CAS at Penn

I have recently been admitted to the University of Pennsylvania in their College of Arts and Sciences. I'm interested in double-majoring in Econ + Math. Since Econ is only in the College at Penn, I was wondering if it would make a difference. My plan is either to get a buy-side job straight out of undergrad (hedge fund preferably) or go into academia. Does it make a difference in hiring whether you have a degree in Biz from Wharton or a degree in CAS from the College?

Nah. Maybe just do a minor in Wharton if you have the space. I think Econ/Math will be more useful for what you want to do anyway

For the love of god, don't take advice from other college students. If you want to pursue a fundamental hedge fund career, you should try to transfer into Wharton. If you want to go into academia, go CAS. Also these are very different career paths. Not even remotely alike and a Math/Econ major will not teach you anything you need for a fundamental investing job. Different story if you want to be a quant.

And yes it makes a difference. Wharton opens up doors that CAS simply doesn't whether justified or not. That's the unfortunate reality.

can you expand on this a little

What will wharton teach you that will make you so attractive to fundamental hedge funds? Doing Econ and math keeps academia wide open and it’s not like op can’t learn what they need to for landing buyside out of undergrad. I doubt p72 academy or something will care if you’re in Wharton or CAS.
