Where I though I'd Be by Now
I graduated from university 1.5 years ago. I thought by this point in my carreer everything would be sorted out and I would be either an associate or an entrepreneur. Worst case scenario, I would be prepping for a top MBA and hoping for a bright future. Instead, I feel lost. I'm working at a real estate private equity firm (mid-tier $3B AUM), and although it seemed as the perfect job at the beggining, one that would at least align me towards a M7 MBA, I am now starting to doubt it. I have no time for volunteering other than once every couple of months, my carreer trajectory hasnt catapulted (I'm still an analyst 1.5 years later, and given the nature of my firm, I don't see that changing anytime soon). My trajectory is no clear sign of "leadership" top MBA's want; I feel like that path is almost lost for me.
I have seen some people opt for the european path (abandoning M7 MBA idea for a master in finance at LBS, HEC, or LSE) and then landing a position at a top bank or fund at London or Paris. Could this be the move?
The more time passes, the less inspired I feel. I guess I thought I would be that rare exception and would make associate in less than 2 years and would be at H/W/S MBA by 27.
In what firm were you anticipating being an associate in 1.5 years lol
