A day in the life - Don't know much about the field

Hey all,

Bare with me as I am new as I am sure you can see by post count and join date. I've done a fair bit of reading through this forum, but have yet to find a full, proper description of what you would do in s&t on a daily basis. IB has this information available, but not S&T that I've seen.

I do not know which path would be best for me, and without understanding the differences between the two, I find it hard to know which path is best for me. Obviously undergrad school is an important choice too based on which way I wish to go. From what I've read, S&T is very heavy on performance whereas IB is just about grinding out long hours. Apart from that and hours worked, I really don't know much else about S&T from an analyst level up.

Can anyone point me in the right direct if I've missed an important thread? Otherwise, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Posting so I can follow this thread as it progresses.

I just got a summer internship at a boutique PWM firm in NYC and they are going to sponsor me for the 7 and 63, so pretty soon here I will be doing the Junior Broker thing and starting to build my book. Definitely interested in hearing what those who came before me have to say.

Not to burst your bubble BUT Private Wealth Management is not S&T. You becoming a broker is just like a financial advisor aka retail clients. S&T is institutional not retail.

The one who does not fall, does not stand up

You aren't bursting my bubble at all, I understand the difference between retail and institutional. I may go down that path in the future, and I was just bookmarking the thread. Bubble intact :)

IB is about getting the work done as fast as you can because you have NO idea how much potential work there might be fast forward 2 hours. S&T(more so T) is about making as much profit as you can before 4pm.

Banking.

I guess I wouldn't mind doing a quick one if there is interest.
