BB S&T Sophomore Summer
So my cousin is an Executive Director in S&T at the BB where I'm doing PWM this summer. I will be a sophomore in the fall and am hoping to use this connection to get an internship/SA position or, at the very least, an interview. We're very close so it's not like trying to network with a total stranger. How much power does an ED really have in this scenario?

An ED/ MD has quite a bit of power in the hiring process. EDs usually pair up with a VP to screen candidates, and MDs are incorporated into the interview process and approve the decision. You've got a pretty good shot at getting a gig in S/T, IMO, if that's what you're looking for. Of course, it's UBS... but you take what you can get. Congrats in advance.
I believe equities is only moving to NY.
An MD can have a ton of pull, depends how involved he (or she) is involved in recruiting. Regardless, should be enough to at least get you a first round.. your cousin can't get you a job, too competitive these days.
That's more than enough to get your name onto the interview list at least. I later found out one girl from the superday at the firm I ended up taking my first SA slot at had a sister in the division who was a VP.
2 people in my SA class this summer have fathers in the same division. a couple brother/sister SA's as well.
thanks for all the input. after looking around online i've reached the conclusion that, at least at UBS S&T in the US, an ED is more senior than an MD. thoughts?
If an MD normally can have a lot of pull.. and at UBS an Ed is more senior than an MD.. you do the math (or re-read the first half of the thread..). Just don't screw up the interview(s), nothing is guaranteed until you get an offer.
At most firms, ED is not senior to MD...
MD>ED>VP>Associate>Analyst. Some banks don't even have EDs, they just go from VP to MD
