Best Job To Become A Commodity Trader
Im in my last year of study and I work as a Sales-Trader Assistant in a bank. I would like to make a career in commo (nothing to do with the recent hype) and I am currently in the process of recruiting for the graduate program at two of the "ABCD". In case I don't make the it, I was wondering what are the best jobs as a junior to have a chance to become a trader ? Thanks for your help.
Merchandiser and Commercial Trainee roles are generally your best bets for getting into trading at an ABCD. Generally speaking, Merchandisers originate and/or market goods (i.e. originate soybeans to a crush plant and sell meal, or originate wheat to a flour mill and sell midds), while those in Commercial roles are more involved with running the assets themselves, although they can get a fair amount of exposure to origination and marketing depending on the location of the asset(s). You can typically get to a pure trading role within just a few years from either of those starting points.
Edit: I should clarify that by "pure trading" I mean buying, transporting/storing and selling raw materials like wheat, corn, beans, etc. without processing/transforming them in a mill or crush plant. It typically takes a fair amount longer to get to a paper desk where you're only trading derivatives from what I've seen at my ABC.
Thank you for your answer, I appreciate it. I'll will check out the offers.
(I am definitely not going for a paper trading role. My goal is really to become a physical trader).
