Computer Science Major for Quanty Macro roles?

rising sophmore at target hoping to double major in stats and econometrics (econ with an econometrics specialization). I have to code for some of my coursework in school (Python, R), but how much programming is needed for the most "quanty" macro desks like rates vol trading, or or rates/FX research?

I am debating whether to drop one of my majors for CS. I am less interested in programming in general, and like learning the things in stats and econometrics (regression, ML processes, econometrics, time series analysis) much more. Should I be fine with the programming I learned from these courses or do I need SWE capabilties?

If you're not interested in the programming aspect, I'd say don't do CS.  Your background is technical enough for most S&T desks so doesn't make sense. However, what I've heard from some is that certain desks (especially rates) are increasingly hiring PhDs, even if 5 years ago someone of your background would qualify for an analyst role.  But might have sampling bias on my end, so YMMV.  Depending on how much effort and interest you have, you can do a PhD.

Btw pretty sure I've seen you around couple of times on the trading/HF forum, you're going places man.  Just keep up with school, find the best internship possible, be helpful to your bosses (potential mentors), continue to read, yada yada.  Your educational background + passion for macro will go a LONG way, many people like you already in the industry.
