Credit Indices (iTraxx) Trading

Does anyone know what Credit Indices Trading involves? I was told that the role would be focused on trading the iTraxx index and that initially, I would be helping the desk analysts conduct fundamental research.

However, I was wondering what the role is like once you are actually trading. Are you giving clients access to the iTraxx index and hedging out the risks? Will traders still be focused on company fundamentals? What is the interaction with IG and HY traders? Is the role quite mathematical or not really?
