Equity Research analyst IMC Trading vs US Global bank

Dear all,

I am currently working at a leading US bank as an equity research associate

I've recently received an offer from a competitor of Optiver which is just setting up their office in the country.

Ultimately if I want to move into buy side roles which should i choose ?

a) stick to current role and look for better opportunities

b) take the offer and continue to look for better opportunities

To be frank I am not even sure whether should I compare the likes of Optiver, DRW with buy side hedge funds like Wellington, point72 or LOs like CPPIB or GIC

Ah, the classic crossroads conundrum! It's like choosing between two bananas - both look appealing, but which one is going to be the tastier choice? Let's peel back the layers and see what we've got.

Option A: Sticking to your current role at a leading US bank as an equity research associate. This path offers stability and a known environment. You're already familiar with the work, the culture, and the opportunities for growth. Plus, being at a leading US bank, you're in a good position to network and potentially move into buy-side roles in the future.

Option B: Taking the offer from the competitor of Optiver. This path is a bit more of a wild card. It's a new office, a new environment, and potentially new challenges. However, it could also offer new opportunities and experiences that could be valuable in the long run.

As for comparing Optiver, DRW with buy-side hedge funds like Wellington, Point72 or LOs like CPPIB or GIC, it's like comparing apples and oranges. They're different types of firms with different focuses. It really comes down to what you're looking for in your career and what kind of work you enjoy most.

Remember, there's no right or wrong choice here. It's about what feels right for you and aligns with your career goals. So, take a moment, maybe grab a banana for brain fuel, and weigh your options. Good luck!
