Fidelity Investments
What is the view around here regarding Fidelity Investments? Prestigious or not? I know its a reputable company, but does it rank up there with some of the other large investment houses? How about their trading groups? If you had the option to start off on the retail side then possibly move into institutional S&T at Fidelity or work for a BBs PWM group, which would you choose? I am currently looking at both and having a tough time deciding, so I just want to hear some opinions. I understand the difference, just want to hear the pros and cons of both. Thanks!
I have two contacts at the firm and they both had really good things to say about the company - both in equity research so this might not be too relevant but for what it's worth one turned down an offer at a BB IB and the other with a hedge fund and from past posts on WSO and from one of the contacts, I hear it pays really well.
Not to sure about the retail side (I'm assuming a broker/sales type job) but I'd guess it would be tough to move from there to Sales & Trading
One of my contacts there said that after about a year or two on the retail side they are very open to allowing ones move to S&T, or really any division there, as most of their hires are internal. But thats something I was hoping to verify on here as well. Thanks for your response kb.
I used to work at fidelity on the retail side, PM for info.
bump
anyone else have info/experience with fidelity? specifically their equity research and cap markets entry-level positions
a family member of mine works in equity research at fidelity management & research co - basically the buy-side research house for the funds. It's an unparalleled experience and likely one of the best tracks you can get to a Portfolio Mgr as an undegrad since you'll be hard pressed to find a buy-side research job like this anywhere pre-MBA. The down side is that they VERY RARELY hire undergrads outside of Harvard, Yale, and MIT. If you go to those schools, then great, otherwise, you had better network your way in somehow.
Fidelity Careers? (Originally Posted: 08/18/2013)
does anyone know if fidelity has some kind of analyst training or rotational program? and is it any good?
lol its fidelity.. training is in boston.. get mentored around with Peter Lynch and all the hot shot MDs.. is it good? its a stepping stone to a top HF or top MBA
In terms of prestige, Fidelity is near the top of the list. There are only a few shops that large that could be placed in the same category with Fidelity, i.e. Wellington. If you're going to be in AM/MF/HF there really isn't a better place to start your career. Their alumni network is enormous which will almost guarantee placement at a top bschool.
First Job Help: Fidelity Investments (Originally Posted: 12/29/2014)
Hi guys I am trying to break into the industry. After having done poorly at UV in my first 2 years I salvaged my grades by switching majors from business to sociology. Anyways I know that was a mistake but I was able to make a 3.2 GPA. I have been looking for work, just graduated this December. My goal is to work in wealth management.
Anyways at a job fair I was just offered work at a Fidelity Investments call center as a Financial Representative. They require the Series 7 & 63 licenses, and will pay for CFA certification. I was wondering what if anything do you guys know about the possibilities of parlaying this into a more lucrative position.
Most job reviews say this is a dead end job with no chance for advancement within Fidelity. They said it was hard to move out of the call center track into other branches of the company. Can a position like this be a good starting point into the industry? Would you guys just advice me to let go of this goal to enter wealth management? (I have been offered some management positions in other industries retail, insurance).
Any help, opinions, as well as criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Being a fin rep would be a good starting point for wealth management
I'd trust the job reviews more so than anyone else here unless they have a personal experience or indirect one about this call center position. I'd try to network hard and find another position that could potentially lead you to where you want to go before taking the management positions.
Thanks guys. Do you guys have any suggestions for someone in my situation to break into the field? I don't have the ivy, the gpa, or even the business background......
An interesting story about Fidelity... (Originally Posted: 04/20/2016)
