GPA vs Experience

I just finished my freshman year with a 4.0 (non-target school) and solid extracurriculars. I was thinking of pursuing a mathematics minor to sharpen my resume/skillset for a career in energy trading. I am in no way a math savant and expect my GPA to take a hit if I choose this path. I have this notion that even if my GPA drops, a recruiter might appreciate the attempted challenge. However, I am totally speculating; a recruiter might not give two shits either way.

Is the experience worth it or should I prioritize the GPA?

Personally I would always take the risk. If a recruiter prefers a 4.0 business major over a 3.5 STEM major I think that’s a huge miss on their part. Worst case (somewhat unethical) you can always just submit your major GPA instead of overall GPA, just know you might have to explain why you did that if they as for a transcript.
