HS junior thinking of applying to Lehigh
Hi, I’m a high school junior in a competitive Northeast Highschool outside of NYC. I’ve been thinking of applying ED to Lehigh. I know Lehigh has a highly successful alumni base and many have told me that I would be a good fit there. I know that I want to work in some sort of sales. Preferably Institutional Sales at a BB. If I attend Lehigh what are my chances of getting an Internship at a BB? I’ve been told I have a strong personality and have been advised by my guidance counselor that a sale career might be beneficial due to my work ethic and strong personality. I also have a strong passion for finance and tech. Should I apply to Lehigh or should I consider somewhere else? And how hard would it be to get a S&T internship from there?
Hey there, future Wall Street whiz! Based on the most helpful WSO content, Lehigh is a solid choice for those aiming for a career in finance. It's got a strong alumni network and a reputation for producing hard-working graduates.
Now, as for landing an S&T internship at a BB, it's not a walk in the park, no matter where you're studying. It's a competitive field, and you'll need to bring your A-game. That said, your strong personality, work ethic, and passion for finance and tech will definitely work in your favor.
However, it's important to remember that while Lehigh is a great school, it's not the only path to a successful career in finance. There are many other schools out there with strong finance programs and alumni networks. So, do your research, consider your options, and choose the school that feels like the best fit for you.
And remember, no matter where you end up, it's what you make of your time there that really counts. So, study hard, network like a pro, and grab every opportunity that comes your way. You've got this!

Went to Lehigh but graduated almost 10 yrs ago... they place heavily in big 4, maybe 1 or 2 IB, handful of banking ops roles. But that could change. Some people got awesome jobs, and yes there's a bunch of alumni high up or in boutiques.
I would just keep an open mind - I wanted a specific job with a specific firm, yet ended up rejecting the offer and taking something else.
You should think about Bucknell as well... We have better school colors ;)
When you say institutional sales, you're referring to the equity sales team that pushes research to clients/investors, correct?
To be honest, Equity Sales is a bit of a dying industry. So if you express any sort of interest into those types of groups and show competence, I'm sure you wont have any trouble landing interviews. Of course you should be networking with people already in industry, since you'll have a higher chance of getting a job from those types of interactions.
If you started in solely an equity sales role, transferring to a sales trader position shouldnt be too hard. However I feel like most BB's have some sort of rotational program for new grads.
All of the patriot league schools are solid - so i wouldnt worry about where you attend. It's more about how much you hustle from there.
