Move from FO trading tech (functional analyst) to Trading

Done my fair share of googling but didn't find much on topic of lateral move from trading technology (platforms/IT), functional side, to S&T FO roles. Mostly hear stories of (rare) moves from MO/BO, but I don't think this fits what FO AM does in a BB; we're basically managing trading platform (IT applications) from functional side - from blotter to RFQs, curves (in case of FI), pricing and risk, so basically an ops role which ensures the production platform itself is running and is functionally fit to the needs of the business. Don't do any trade recon or PnL reports, but instead design functional specifications what should be in the PnL report based on FO and MO needs.

Said that, what would be the best way to possibly move into a junior S&T FO role? Kind of mid-career...not sure if top finance MBA would help, it's a lot of t and $, ah btw already have a finance MSc degree, just ended up in this role a decade back since it was 2nd or 3rd choice and the market was not great to make it into top roles.

I work closely with traders, but sometime difficult to justify why they should go in details on whys and hows of the business and theory if it's not immediately relevant to the project on hand. Same with quants, can access them to ask questions, but don't want to bother daily and also not sure what questions to ask anyway....it all seems clear, I mean the business model, flow trading, pricing, markups/charges, etc etc. but if I had to sit and actually do it myself using the very same FO tools I see daily, probably would bomb something since I never had chance to actually shadow market makers. Also sometimes the desk takes small directional bets or works the risk over long time, but not sure which criteria for exposure and direction they use and why. Observations/advice? Does it actually make sense at all or I should just sit here since the tech is anyway the future and trading jobs will anyway completely evolve into a glorified nerd IT role of script dev + algo monitoring jockey ?
