Profile for S&T grad

Hi all, 

I'm very interested in markets but too late to get on the SA train here, was wondering if people with experience in S&T or recruitment could tell me what they thought of my profile for a S&T grad application, whether I'd be competitive, and, if not, what would be intelligent next steps. 

To give a bit more colour on me, oxbridge Econ undergrad + masters, one IB SA, solid Econ research assistant experiences, basic python (pandas, NumPy, matplotlib), fluent in 3 Euro languages and some sports/leadership extracurriculars. No real markets experience however, except light involvement in related student societies and some academics (tangential research projects & coursework). Would be very grateful for some thoughts on my profile and chances or any advice !

Clearly very solid but S&T grad roles are few and far between, I'd still recommend applying to summer internships or off-cycles if you have graduated already. 

Make sure you indicate some markets interest, producing a weekly macro/markets summary is a good way to go as that's kinda what you'd be doing as a grad/junior anyway.

I generally recommend highlighting a desk you're particularly interested in on the top of your CV/ cover letter as well, e.g. structured credit, rates sales, equi derivs etc. and use the cover letter to explain why, based on your prior experience.

Thanks for the info, will def looking into off cycles, SAs difficult since BBs tend to be quite strict about graduation requirements to my understanding. Do you have any advice for producing a macro summary (in terms of where to post it I mean), would just posting a macro summary on substack be a good idea ? I feel like without any viewership it might not look the best ?

 

Happy to help, most BBs (except my own) I think are ok if you're final year but I suppose even if you are, summer '26 is already done.  In terms of a weekly summary, I would post it on a substack or your own linkedin - the latter my be better because people will for sure see it comes off a bit more confident. Viewship isn't important, the main thing is your can put it on your CV  -

"Editor of {newsletter name}

  • Produced a weekly markets summary covering macro/rates/fx, equity, commods, weekly trade ideas etc.... posted weekly to me linkedin or substack {link} reaching xxx viewers --"
