Structured Credit Trading internship
Hi, I've been offered an internship in structured credit trading at a non-BB European bank. From what I gather the main products traded are credit derivatives such as CDS, CLN, TRS, etc. and there's gonna be a lot of spreadsheet automation using VBA. I've got the basics of credit derivatives by reading some handbooks published by MS but have no clue what kind of VBA functions will be useful in trading.
Any help or input is appreciated, thanks!
Structured Credit Internship? (Originally Posted: 10/06/2016)
I read a few older posts about structured credit. Does not sound too promising, though I recently had a chat with a Director in Structured Credit (BB) and it sounded quite interesting. What are the main tasks in Structured Credit? Are the exit opps really that limited? Would it be good to 'get a foot in the door' and then try to switch to M&A? Would you prefer BB Structured Credit over Big 4 M&A? Is Structured Credit part of DCM?
I think exit ops are pretty limited because it's a specific asset class and training. I don't see Structured -> M&A as a simple transition.
Ok I see, but would you still prefer it over Big 4 M&A? I mean assuming there would be no other BB offer, what would you choose? I guess concerning pay and prestige its better to be at a BB (speaking about Europe).
Structured Credit Trading Intern Rotation (Originally Posted: 07/10/2010)
Hoping someone can shed some light on this.
My next rotation on my internship is in structured credit trading, but I am worried cuz i dont have a huge quant background (ie got several terms of econometrics and stats and a couple terms of calc). In terms of programming I can do some VBA but thats it
Was just wondering what kind of quant requirements are there on this desk?
I'm interested in this as well. I'd assume they'd want you to have a calc background, etc. although knowledge of structured products and fiannce is probably more important.
I got put on a SCT rotation as an intern and I have a basic econ background (and not mathsy one at that). My general feel is that what you need is to be able to grasp the mathematical concepts behind the products. However, the traders have a team of quants doing programming etc.
