WF Summer Analyst $19/hr??

I recently got a S&T SA offer from Wells Fargo in Charlotte. However, they're only paying $19 an hour (overtime for over 40 hrs) with a relocation bonus of $1,500. The 19/hr seems unusually low to me. Should I ask for more or is this standard for WF?

Now what the fuck do you bring to the table to ask for more money?

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

A big sense of entitlement, duh

HAHA. As if there aren't a hundred kids that will step in and do that job for $0/hour.

Take it or leave it kid, you're there to learn, not to get paid

analrapistIt's not like they'll take away my offer for asking for more.

You're not going to get more. It's a standardized SA offer.

I'm getting $20/hour and 1.5x overtime after 40 for my SA role. No relocation bonus. It's standard, not sure why that seems low to you. For 50-60 hours a week, your offer is around $65K annualized.

They just might. Banks have several hundred applications for every job right now, take whatever you can get, stick it out, move around in six months / a year....it will get better after the election. You do NOT want to start work as "that fucking retard over there who demanded more money".

Unless you have another offer. Then, hellz fucking yeah, leverage them against each other. But do it politely, you're still navel lint to them.

sk8247365I got 18/hour in ER 2 years ago. it was 18 for 40 hours a week and 1.5x after that. I ran ~65 hours that annualized to $67k. Base + bonus offer was much higher than that. Just a data point.

Totally agree. And your relocation bonus will actually be a nice % of your earnings over the summer. Don't be too greedy, it's a good pay, especially when compared to the rest of the population and the cost of living in Charlotte.

Ask for more and let us know how it goes. Your best bet is to make a list as to why you deserve more money and recite it to them. Be sure to mention how awesome you are, that they're lucky to have you and how many other banks have given you better offers.

If they refuse, say something to the effect of "biggest mistake of your lives" and slam down the phone.

I'm sure we could all use a good laugh.

analrapistOk I guess this is pretty standard then. I was only asking because I got an offer for an operations internship for $18/hr.
Its almost like the base salary for front office and back office is similar in the first year or something and then they did some crazy mathemagic to get an hourly rate...

So you work 60-65 hours in ops?

analrapistI'm definitely not asking for more then. I didn't realize you get 1.5x for overtime, that makes a lot more sense.

Be sensible with taking overtime pay. Depending on the desk, they might see you as a 'freeloader' despite the hours you put in. Talk to a full-time analyst you trust once you start working.

You're an overpaid lunch delivery boy.

Don't think they actually do overtime, so that comes to 7600 in 10 weeks + 1500 that's 9100...

Ehh, you're also in Charlotte so, obviously pay is lower... stop bitching, most people would be glad to take your spot without pay.

If it's an hourly rate, he's getting OT. They wouldn't phrase it as hourly if he wasn't.

I think there is a 'written contract' and also an 'unwritten' one. A smart SA would read both.

In S&T the unspoken rule is you don't put in OT... Or try to reimburse for cabs & food...

opco does this as well...i think the rate is essentially the same. my buddy is working there this summer and i was surprised to hear that it was hourly pay, but if you do the math you'll be making as much as everyone else at other banks. I think they base this on a 60 hour avg workweek, which is obviously quite low for what you'll be doing. not very hard to calculate it in excel in a couple minutes

Are you trying to ensure you don't get a full time offer? If so, there are easier ways to accomplish this, for example: http://dealbreaker.com/2010/04/area-credit-suisse-employee-chose-unwise…

This truly shouldn't be that hard to figure out. If everyone else is reporting overtime, you should as well. If no one is, obviously don't. Asking a mentor/trusted higher up never hurts as well. Having never even been to Charlotte, I think it's safe to say that the bulk of people here really don't know what the culture down there is like.

$19/hr + 1500 for a summer job is now "unusually low"? Adding onto the fact that you get real work experience? Brother, you are just some grunt with no experience, be happy with what you got.
