Am I transferring up/ Is it worth it?

Hey I currently attend Villanova these are my stats.

Stats- HS GPA-3.8. Got a 4.3 senior year. ACT- 29. SAT- 1980 M-650 CR-650 W-680
Was involved in high school.

College- GPA 3.67. 17 credits. first semester
ECS- indian multicultural organization, fixed income society, Day of service, special olympics.

I am interested in transferring to UVA precommerce then mccintire, UT Austin Mccombs, and UNC bus. school.

  1. do I have a good shot
  2. is it worth it, will it make a difference.
  3. does anybody have other suggestions

My goal is to get into investment banking and ultimately into PE/HF

That GPA won't fly at McCombs. It's very tough to transfer into the business school, and the average GPA for transfers is about 3.8-3.9, but its worth a shot.

To Im with busey. 1 issue is cost, the next is the lack of diversity at least for me and type of people everybody seems like they are rich and from new Jersey, among some other things. I have made some good friends, but if I can transfer to one of these schools I think I would go.

2x2- My SAT is actually within there median range and their median GPA for transfers is a 3.5, however I don't know how much stock to put in these.

and thanks for the opinion eyelikecheese that is the kind of opinion/ advice I am looking for.

any others

No prob. I'd recommend just going on their pages for transfer admits and looking at the statistics and see where you fall. At some places its far easier to transfer from a community college because you can dangerously inflate your gpa to within an acceptable range, which is alot harder than from a 4-year college.

Transferring into UVA may be possible I'm unsure of the general transfer admission statistics; however, getting into McIntire is by no means a sure thing. What you accomplished in high school won't mean anything when trying to get into the Commerce School, and your GPA/SAT won't separate you out from any other applicant (3.62/1380 average). You definitely have a shot, but transferring into UVA only to pursue McIntire is risky.

Is it worth it? Yes.

What do you plan on doing after transferring? Career-wise? I assume Hedge Fund. Not sure how much either school is going to help in that regards. By the way I did not go to UVA. Just know quite a few people that did. Don't know much about UT at all.

  1. This is for UVA. You have a slightly below average shot in my humble opinion. Depends on if you're in state or not. The stats they listed is brought down by having to accept in-state kids. SAT and ACT scores are little low.

  2. You will be transferring as a Sophomore(?) You lose out the crucial first year when people are more open to meeting everyone and forming social groups, joining clubs, joining fraternities/sororities, etc. By Soph. year, most people already have well formed groups. Finding a group will be harder as most already formed. There are "secret societies" at UVA, they are generally pretty open and not as stuffy as the Yale ones and my friend told me more like social clubs with a purpose.

If you want to get into Hedge Fund. Not sure how much UVA can help you here. Besides you will have to compete with all the other students for similar jobs. Along with IVY league and better private schools for BB.

  1. In my opinion. Nova is decent enough to get your foot in the door if you knock it out of the ball park in college. Get a good GPA, at least 3.5 and have one or two internships under your belt. Probably can do S&T(?) Others in S&T can qualify a better answer. I would advise staying put and doing really well. Enjoy yourself, college can be a blast, but don't lose sight of the end game. You have rest of your life after college to worry about work and money.

To be honest I just did not have that much fun at Nova. Maybe it was me not being as outgoing, but some weekends were just boring. I am In-state for UVA and know that it has really good academics and a kick ass social life. I would join clubs when I got there and try to make friends with the people in my dorm to get acclimated. My ultimate goal is to get into HF and I know it prob. wont make a difference in the long run if I got to Nova or UVA. But UVA is top 3 bus. and I could put the 120,000 saved to grad school. The only concern is transferring and not getting into Mccintire which would be pretty bad because I do have a decent situation at NOva business. Anybody else with knowledge of UVA, UNC, or UT
