Anti-Diversity Megathread

Diversity posts are picking back up and they're pretty scattered right now. Just wanted to get this thread going so we can have all the discussions organized and accessible.

For starters that we usually see, less technical interviews, easier to get interviews, exclusive networking events, etc.

Funniest

Finally the thread I can SHINE in. I’ll start.

Ok so one time, I overheard a diversity intern (think UBS/DB/Roths) was drinking from the non diverse (think scrappy, hardworking, rich Asian male) water fountain! Can you BELIEVE THIS?!? When will diversity stop? Next thing you know they’re going to ruin my suburbs!!!

Comment on suburbs is a bit late, plenty of 2000-2016 era section 8 projects were put in second tier suburbs (Bronxville/Chevy Chase/Main Line types would never permit that) because it is cheaper than urban infill. Ruined plenty of okay public schools with crime and scrapped advanced courses (for #Equity), but what can you do to socialize orc-like teenagers from broken homes except draft them into the infantry or Sing Sing?  Kandahar has an amazing way of maturing youth.

“Diversity is our greatest strength” (as opposed to 20/30 somethings who put in 80 hour weeks after going to an Ivy League school because they didn’t knock up a chick at age 15 or rob a 711)- generic corporate leader 50+ years old, who watched in silence as his country setup a legal apparatus comprised of hundreds of thousands of govt (EEOC/DOL/DOJ etc) officials and admin law-mandated private sector HR departments to root out, ostracize, and make unemployable anyone who disagrees with this slogan.  Never, ever criticize affirmative action, diversity, the Griggs/Bakke Supreme Court cases, or asymmetric affinity groups in writing if you want to provide for your family.  What, comrade, you don’t like workers and peasants of the world uniting, what’s wrong with you!?

Translation: Freedom of speech and the marketplace of ideas are fictions, because the government ensures your persecution if you dissent.  Not with jail time, but by making your employer civilly liable for whatever is placed under the broad umbrella of racism.

When, like all of us, you eventually need life saving medical care, your revealed preference for doctors with high MCAT scores will be apparent. Same with an attorney with a high LSAT/class rank if you have a seven figure divorce settlement to hammer out.

Controversial

Complaints about diversity programs are justified. They're racist and do nothing to help uplift minorities. They are exploited by wealthy blacks, white Argentinians and Spaniards, and wealthy women whose biggest struggle in life was getting a B on a chem final. I will never get tired of people complaining about them. Imagine black people complaining repeatedly about segregation in the 1950s, and then making fun of them saying, "haha look at those silly blacks, they're at it again". Obviously not saying segregation and diversity programs are the same thing, but what I am saying is that complaining about something unjust is justified.

But from the firms perspective, they want a diverse and well rounded class. If they can pick up candidate A vs B that are equal except one is a woman and the other is a man they’ll pick the woman.

I would like to understand. Is the grievance with the firm wanting a half woman half male class? Or is it how they accomplish that? What would you suggest the firm do as an alternative? Do you want everyone to be on the same playing field, resulting in 90+% white asian males? Remember these are capitalist firms wanting their classes to be representative. They’ve done the cost benefit analysis and although it personally hurts my chances at getting a good job, I think societally speaking, it’s better for the world that there are more women, etc working in male, etc dominated fields. Please let me know which part you disagree with

IDC What anyone says most of these banks dont care about real diversity, they only care about "looking" good to the shareholders and public.

Mfer's hiring Elizabeths and Juans, whose parents got bank but are considered diverse, diverse my ass. These banks need to solely target low-income communities, ask for people's parent's income, and have a cutoff or something, not only they will cover a wide range of races and gender but they will actually give opportunities to kids that really need it and would be happy to have it.

There shouldn't be legal issues, for a diverse pool they should disclose income. I am  Higher education student, and I had to disclose my income so I can get accepted to the higher education program at my college to get funding, they literally should have a section where you have to upload your parent's income tax or w4 and have a cutoff, not a hard thing to do.

Schools do ask for parent's income, but often times, the diversity complaints go against those institutions too. But, I agree, parental income should be used at the undergrad and post-undergrad levels, with a limit of total household in the range of about $120k (arbitrary guess).

Multi National United hires just about everyone and anyone as long as they show competence. Their model for recruitment is highly effective and extremely fair. I would suggest you guys check them out to see how they do recruiting. Surprised more firms don't follow their model.

Couldn’t agree more about these diversity events. Myself being Hispanic, HR doesn’t give a shit about diversity rather than filling quotas on gender and ethnicities. Diversity programs should be focused on the low income/struggled background students who’ve had difficulties breaking into finance career. Therefore any ethnicity or gender could qualify on these basis. This would improve the overall diversity in the workplace by allowing different backgrounds.

I recant all I have said here and realize all points of view and backgrounds are conducive to hyper capitalist office culture with a particular time preference rate.  To atone for this 21st century blasphemy, we should all watch the #1 Amazon Documentary together, made by a proud BIPOC director named Tariq Nasheed. It is called “Buckbreaking” and chronicles plantation owners sexual assaulting black men in front of their families. Tariq describes how this spawned LGBT behavior in black men today in a white effort to subvert the black family.  We can have a discussion session after at James David Manning’s church to hear all diverse perspectives.

We should do an experiment where we interview people blind, base it purely on merit, and see how many of the successful candidates are diversity hires. This should tell us all we need to know.

It’s called Silicon Valley coding at FAANG or cal tech admissions.
