that carmax tier 1 exit opp mustve really took it out of him huh

No return offer at GS because intern called someone else a fag at a work function? Sounds about right.

Controversial

I'm fully vaccinated and have determined to never wear a mask again with regard to Covid. I'm not going to play this bizarre game of wearing a mask for no medical reason to placate hypochondriacs and government officials who don't abide by their own rules when the cameras are thought to be off. That said, if anyone confronted me about the masklessness (and no one has), I'd be polite about it. Berating old ladies is not the right path. Berating anyone isn't the right path.

Also, an alternative to demanding others wear masks is to mind your own business, get vaccinated, and wear an N-95 mask.

I agree with your points (and am vaxxed) but I’ll still wear one where they’re required, like the subway. Even if I don’t necessarily agree with it, it’s also just about being respectful to people who need them still, etc.

It hardly inconveniences me in any way and this topic really doesn’t need to be that deep.

What you’re saying doesn’t make any sense. There are 0 people in America who need a vaccinated person (or anyone) to wear a mask. All persons over the age of 12 are eligible for a free vaccine that they can receive any time during reasonable hours, 7 days a week. Anyone who chooses not to get vaccinated has taken on the risk of Covid themselves. Kids under 12 who can’t get vaccinated are at virtually no statistical risk to Covid, so unless you masked during the 2019 flu season, which was more deadly to kids, masking now makes no sense except for theatre. If you are immunocompromised and can’t get vaccinated then you can wear an N-95 mask, which is effective against airborne viruses.

There is no logical reason anyone in America should be forced by law or by culture to mask. Everyone who is in real danger to Covid can get a HIGHLY effective vaccine for FREE.

Really well said. And to your point below, vaccines were never promised to prevent you from getting / transmitting the virus. They are there to provide protection against it if you do catch it and have been proven useful in that task. If there is something simple we can all do to help make people at risk (immunocompromised / elderly etc) safer by wearing masks, then why not do so? It sucks wearing one, I'll be the first to say it, but it's not really impeding on my civil liberties by being asked to do so and that to in mostly confined spaces such as the subway or ubers. Folks who refuse to wear a mask under any circumstances - please loosen up and bear with it every now and then. I'm fully vaxxed and don't really think a mask will change my situation but it could certainly help with others'. Just food for thought.

As Chicago enters another mask mandate…was really enjoying not wearing one during workouts

Deaths are slightly lower today than where they were in May when most jurisdictions ended the mask mandates. The policymakers are desperate to feel like they are in control of a situation in which they have no real control over, so they just set aside the facts and data.

You're never going to convince all the pathetic people on this site that are married to following the rules even when the rules are nonsensical and accomplish nothing other than providing the security theater illusion of the political class "doing something." We LiVe In A sOcIeTy and what not. Look at what's happening in Australia with them literally building Covid isolation camps. I wonder how long it is until NYC does the same.

The thing is, these autists who walk around with masks no doubt while fully vaccinated, often outside, are almost certainly standing in judgment of me for lacking empathy or for being an asshole. What they don't realize is that I am standing in judgment of them for being sheep incapable of understanding statistics, at best, and, at worst, being hypochondriac, deranged lunatics who are terrified of eternal hellfire or eternal darkness on the other side.

Anyone else find it disturbing that people would gladly call up strangers at businesses on the other side of the country from them to get someone they know nothing about apart from a minute-long video to get them fired?

So what some weirdo yelled at a woman on the subway? People whip their dicks out and stab each other on the subway too and no one cares.

Didn’t apply to UVA. Didn’t have aspirations of working for carmax.

Notice how the lady stands up to get closer to him after supposedly being worried about him not wearing a mask.  The guys a loonytoon but the world would be a much better place if everyone just minded their own business

Honestly couldnt give less of a shit about this. This is news, why? Because some guy yelled at someone on a train? Like that doesn't happen every single day in new york. Oh wait, people only care because he's saying he won't wear a mask, which is completely logical considering most of the US is vaxxed now

I am not a scientist but my impression was that the intensity of the viral load matters. So if I sit next to someone on the train for a few minutes my immune system may be able to fight off whatever I catch. But if I got the same person to cough directly into the back of my throat for an hour straight, maybe it's more taxing for my immune system to fight.

Wearing a cloth mask by no means protects me completely against the virus. But if it even incrementally cuts down the viral load I'm exposed to, and gives my immune system an easier time, why not? It doesn't cost me anything. There's only upside.

That's just why I wear a mask myself. I don't really care to dictate or worry about what other people do - not a good use of time.

Setting aside the genuine debate about the efficacy of cloth and paper masks, did you apply this same logic to any other disease prior to 2020 and will you apply it to Covid and to all other diseases for the rest of your life?

What if Covid is endemic to the population? Will you wear a mask for the rest of your life?

No, but the fact that I used to get a cold every year like clockwork, and haven't since I started wearing a mask is enough to make me realize that the asian countries were doing something right wearing masks pre-covid in dense areas like the subway

A business I used to patronize (only stopped because I moved out of the area) had a similar situation a year or so ago to CarMax here, basically a former employee who still listed them on their facebook page posted a bunch of racist nonsense online and got the woke mobs sicced on the business. Problem, aside from the fact that this person hadn't worked there in the previous year or so, is that this was a family-run dog boarding place in a rural part of the Midwest run by an elderly couple and their adult son who despite pointing out that the moron in question no longer worked there and hadn't in some time were now getting bombarded with messages from scumbags all over the country which were every bit as hateful as the crap the original idiot posted. I and a few other current/former customers posted on their page to defend them, after a few days the mob moved on to something else but I can only imagine what was going through those poor people's heads.

Any other examples of people going from high finance to regular job, I mean middle market pe to carmax manager what the fuck

Interesting... you can tell the building blocks were there in college though, no? If you look at his jefferson scholar profile, he seemed to be pretty closely involved with organizations with a clear political stance (a number of political organizations, religious organization, rifle club, etc.). Nothing wrong with those at all.

In any case, his career path is mindboggling. EB > MM PE (seems to be an aerospace / defense focused fund) > CarMax corporate strategy

RHO

first of all, i think that career path is completely normal. People don't realize how cushy these corporate strategy roles can be and CarMax is a F500!

Generally from my experience, this has been the breakdown of the political spectrum at banks/pe firms. 50% Democrat/left-leaning, 30% Republican/right, 20% Independent/don't care. Obviously its more acceptable to be left-leaning (I admit this as a democrat), so some of those independents might actually be right. Of those who don't purport to be independent, I'd say 25% of Democrats and 10% of Republicans openly talk about politics in the workplace. These are the people who tend to be kind of annoying.

Wouldn't say mindboggling at all. That's a well trodden career path and many forgot that most PE Associates are forced out of their funds. Corp Strat is also a nice gig that's pretty interesting.
