Bankground Check/University Disciplinary Records
I realize this type of question comes up pretty frequently by my situation is somewhat unique. I got an offer for a summer analyst position at a BB and I have to have a background check now. Do you think that they will check my school judicial record? I had two alcohol violations freshman year for underage drinking(I'm a sophomore). I didn't have any legal issues because it was all dealt with internally by the university, but should I disclose this beforehand?
Obviously they will check my academic records, but any judicial information is completely separate, so they would have to request it specifically.
They're running the check now? Not when you arrive in the summer?
I have to fax them the signed release forms now so they can start running the check. I also have to do the drug test now.
i doubt they'll find this out. i think they're looking more down the lines of criminal felonies, bad credit, etc.
what's the consequence of bad credit (as far as I know, my credit's fine)? How does it become relevant?
They probably look at it as, "If they cant be responsible and take care of their own financial situation why would we trust them with a clients?"
Therefore your credit is extremely relevant.
Hey halfcab, what kind of time-frame do they give you to take the piss test? w/in a week? 5 days? Give the rest of us a heads up! Thanks!
so far, I haven't been given a deadline for the drug test. they just told me to do it as soon as possible. you could easily put it off for a week. its up to me to schedule it and go to a testing center near my school
I don't think they have time to check every student's judicial record at their school, but I could be wrong..
what about background checks/criminal records? which are the ones they do/dont care about (alcohol, marijuana, theft, etc..)?
At least 25% of the males at my school have at least 1 underage alcohol violation on their record. I have never heard of any potential employers caring in the least.
what kind of people are fired after a background check? What is a sufficient reason ?
Examples:
-Bad credit -Lying about internships you have never done -Criminal convictions -Lying about degrees
What if a company won't confirm an internship even though you have interned?
What if a company misspecifies your dates of employment and they don't match with whatever you have provided originally? Does this matter even if the mistake is corrected (by your previous employer?) This is what happened to me.
Could you maybe specify the list above? Innocent until proven guilty?
really? what was the reason of being rejected?
They haven't rejected me... yet. I hope they won't!
Probably just stressing for nothing. But what happened is that I got contacted from this background check firm and they asked me to reconfirm my dates of employment. They told me my employer had given them different information. So of course I called my previous employer to ask what went wrong and they corrected their mistake, which was basically a misunderstanding due to communication/language difficulties in the first place. So my employer made a mistake, not me. And since then I haven't heard from the background check people. But I would think they would contact me if they needed any other information?
Anybody know if banks in the UK make you do a drugs test? I do remember reading somewhere that my bank gives u help if ur on drugs or some bs like that, if they catch you when you are already working that is...
everybody uses drugs in the industry i was told... apparantly they don't check when you are already working..
please explain how one can work till 0300 get a drink in a club till 0600 and be in the office again at 0900 day after day ...
student disciplinary records and background checks (Originally Posted: 10/22/2014)
A few years ago I was caught smoking marijuana in my university. Nothing came of it except for a minor sanction. The record of the incident is kept on my disciplinary record, separately from my transcript. I was not arrested and there is nothing on my criminal record.
While, this is information that is kept private by my records office, I believe some background check waivers count as me giving the employer permission to access said student record.
I hear employers will not ask me about institutional action in universities, however, is this something that would come up in a background check? And if so is it a deciding factor in employment?
I'm a highly paid worrier so consider the following. You cannot change what happened or whether or not they will find out you smoked some weed in college. This leaves you two options:
1) Apply and deal with it if it comes up.
2) Don't apply, which would lead to your worst case scenario if you went ahead and applied anyways.
Odds are, it won't come up and if it does no one will care since you don't have a criminal history. Either way, it changes nothing for you. All else being equal it's hard for me to imagine going through recruiting, extending an offer, having the applicant accept the offer and then because he was caught smoking weed once in college I'm going to what, rescind the offer?
Thank you!
Thank you!
Although I would question his skills since he got caught
background check...school discipline (Originally Posted: 03/26/2014)
I've had multiple run ins with my school disciplinary system that have resulted in being placed on "disciplinary probation" on a couple occasions. However, nothing has resulted in suspension or anything that would show up on a transcript. Would a background check reveal these violations?
Nope, had numerous myself.
Maybe someone could correct me but, it is my understanding that the only things that would screw you on a background check and result in a rescinded offer are:
Other than that, I have heard from multiple people that they don't give a shit about much else, including school probation type stuff, drinking crimes and (hit or miss) drug crimes.
thanks guys
pretty sure you're safe do let us know how it turns out though!
Suspension for Drunken Stupidity (Originally Posted: 03/15/2007)
I've accepted an internship at a West Coast BB this summer, but am nervous about the background check. I was suspended for a year for doing something stupid when I was drunk. This did not come up during interviews as there was no way for banks to tell this, but I'm worried it'll come up during the background check. It's listed on my transcript. What's the best way to approach this? Will banks care at all? It clearly has little reflection on my ability to excel as an analyst, but I'm worried nonetheless. Advice would be greatly appreciated.
